I know my cars never leave the garage. But I can still make upgrades as long as I can install them myself. My CAI choices are:

Option 1: FRPP #M-9603-SVT07 ($688.85 + S&H) 113mm mass air with inlet tube, conical filter and programmer to reflash computer. These are the exact factory components used to up the 500 hp GT500 to 540 hp in the GT500KR (otherwise the motors are identical). PLUS: add 40 hp and be the exact same as the GT500KR while keeping everything factory Ford parts. MINUS: only adds 40 hp.

Option 2: Steeda 114mm mass air with inlet tube and conical filter ($389.95 + S&H) and SCT XCal3 programmer ($379.99 + S&H). American Muscle claims these two specific components used together add +97 rwhp to an otherwise stock GT500. PLUS: add 97 hp. MINUS: not factory Ford and not the cachet of being identical to the GT500KR.

Both choices have their merits. What do you AFM experts think? (Tached Out need not reply, since there is no way he would ever choose +40hp over +97hp.)

I may also add the FRPP #M-5230-SVT1 mufflers ($649.75 + S&H). These do much the same for the GT500 as the GTAs do for a GT, except they are made of 304 stainless which does not rust (the GTAs are 409 stainless which forms a surface rust which is supposed to prevent further rust from forming). If I choose the FRPP CAI, I would probably order the mufflers at the same time.

Can you get the Ford parts less the programer? It would give you the same looks but with a SCT tuner you can get a custome tune.
No, you can't. I would have liked that option. I'm not above also buying the SCT and getting a dyno tune if I ever start driving the car. But right now its either one or the other.

Hey Gary. I think I would go with the FRPP CAI, only because I am a Ford man. I think the Steeda is a graet choice (I had a Steeda CAI on my 02 GT), but if I were going to upgrade one of my new cars, I would go FRPP. I think it looks a little better than the Steeda, but this is just my opinion. I know the FRPP only give you 40hp, but you are not street racing. The car will look more "factory".

Gary, since you're NOT going to have a GT500KR no matter how you slice and dice it OR will your current GT500 be completely stock once you modify it, why not get the Steeda package?

Instead of saying your have a factory GT500 with factory GT500KR CAI why not say you have a GT500 that has more balls than a GT500KR?

I just want to say you'll NEVER, no matter how many factory parts you buy, be identical to a factory GT500KR because you can't change your VIN. As soon as you put a modification (any modification) onto your GT500, you wont have a stock GT500 anymore either (yes, even sequential tail lights). Do the Steeda man...

I'm not trying to turn my car into a KR. The KR is overpriced at $80K list, and I do not like all of the cosmetic differences. But the main "bragging rights" over GT500 owners would be the extra 40 hp, and having not just the same horsepower but the same factory parts used to achieve that horsepower as the KR does appeal to me.

I do think the FRPP CAI looks the best. The Steeda looks good as well. I also looked at the JLT and another that looked much worse in my opinion.

I'd say go with the FRPP CAI. It would give you the clean OEM look and a nice boost in the horsepower category. Can't beat that :bigthumbsup

Well heres my thoughts.. the JLT intake is double the rwhp for a little bit less money.. yeah you want to keep the stock look.. but i guess we have a little different opinions.. i think the JLT looks better compared to the FRPP.. yeah there are plus's to having the FRPP..no need to tell you that, you already know.. id buy JLT, C&L that chris pointed out...and then FRPP.

So I have a question: just how in the world do you have a GT500 and are able to resist driving it? I wouldn't last thirty seconds.
