I've got the 2011 v6 auto, which is ok but it's too easy to overshoot sometimes when upshifting, say going to 3 from 1 when I really wanted only to go to 2.
I know it's just me, but I'd like to be able to just use the side button on the 2013 auto tranny.
Would it be possible to swap the shifter out of the 2011 for a 2013? I got the idea when looking at a swapout of an auto shifter for TCI's shifter, which is a bit pricey at ~ $500 & frankly, a little too 'aftermarkety'.

Hard to tell. The shifter itself would probably go right in, but you would have to find out if the shifting via the button on the shifter would be compatible. It would need to be wired, and that is only if the computer and/or software is the same for both model years, which it should be. :?:

If it is, it would still take some custom work, plus the replacement part from the dealer,
which would be more than that aftermarket shifter itself more than likely. The tci should be an easy install for the average joe.

I'm not sure if either option is worth it to be honest. You are never going to get the same responsiveness that you would out of a stick or dual clutch manumatic with paddle shifters.

To me the 3-2-1 and the +\- button is just a gimmick. A poorly executed gimmick I might add.

The select shift is in the transmission tune. So to use it you would have to change the ECU as well. Judt putting the shifter in won't make the button functional.

Not sure if an entirely new ECU is necessary, though additional programming would be

Wonder whether my local ford service guy would faint if I asked if the swap was possible.:)
Hi billq,

I checked into this with my Technical Subject Matter Expert and he advised, this is not doable or recommended. Have a good one!
