After almost 7 weeks and not even a VIN I am seriously considering canceling my order and buying a 2010 GT500 that is at a dealer 8 miles from my house. I was going to pay $40K for the 2011 GT and the dealer will take $48K for the Shelby (with $4k in options installed). The extra $8K will not break me but is more than I wanted to spend.

Which way would you go? Wait it out or buy the Shelby?

GT500 all the way. I passed up a 2008 with 12K miles asking $35000. Sure wish I would have pulled the trigger on it. Waiting for the GT since April 19............

Close call, but if you have the money, GT 500. And, you should be able to get a better deal than that for a 2010. I was looking at one and got them down to $45,500 and it had every option available, including the electronics package. I sometimes wish I would have bought it. Oh well, I'm working on a GT now.

My vote is for the Shelby GT500. I would get some insurance quotes first. In NY it was an additional $620 yearly cost over the 5.0 with State Farm as a daily driver.

If it's a second car and will have limited yearly mileage, you should be able to do better on the rates. I have friends with corvettes paying $750 to $1000 a year, but they're only doing 500 to 2000 miles a year.

you can buy the Shelby if you want to, but the preformance of the new 5.0 GT is almost the same, just a bit short. Then also the 5.0 gas milage is a bit better in the 5.0 as well. but if you want to have the Shelby name and the luxury to go with it, take the 2010. Remember the 2010 also has the Gas Tax to go with it as well, which is not put into the price. For my money i'm sticking with the 5.0

I don't get why so many people are having to wait so long. I ordered my 2011 GT on May 20th and my dealer said that it will be here one day this week! I must have gotten lucky!

thats because yours was built after the error was caught and adjusted on the line. They shipped yours straight to the rails and then out. However everyone elses was kept in Area 51 until the aliens could either take them away or fix'm. right now I'm thinking they flew off with both of mine.......

and yes you were lucky.

Silver Bullet 56 - I'm glad for you with a very short wait. The second wave of orders was treated very well.

Fox Granit, myself and many others preorder our cars 4 or 5 months ago. They were delayed due to many reasons. If you want the history go back and look at all the postings from two months ago. We are finally getting our cars now. Yes, we all knew that the Job 1 production was starting in early March and that problems will occur with new models, engines etc. My original ETA was May 29 and I'm still waiting..

It's been a very bad experience for most of us, But that should change one minute after leaving the dealership with a new 2011 Stang.

Last year I worked for ford as a contractor changing out torque converters in the new escapes. This must be a common thing where they put out a car that already has problems. Hey they cant wait to make service cash I guess. My trucks at the dealer rite now :shigrin.

Anyways, it was good money. $1920 a week, but they did work us 12 hours a day 7 days a week. I had a new guy working with me and just the two of us pulled in and drove out 6 cars a day to get them fixed. Ford pays big for this kinda crap and its a huge rush to get them done, be sure of that. Some poor/lucky crew is working non stop 24/7.
