Can't figure out that whining noise

I have heard that ford's power steering pumps always whine...but my is too loud...i have straights on my 1998 v6, but i can still hear the whining noise...it accelerates when as i accelerate, goes up as rpm's go up...could i do anything about it?...or could it be something else?...can an alternator whine?

everything whines, AC, Alt, PS, etc.

When was the last time you changed the fluids? in your PS? could be the viscosity's broken down . . .
