So I come out of a restaurant on Friday night, fire her up, and I get a "Trunk Ajar" message. Trouble is that I didn't hit the trunk button on my remote. But OK I might have hit it accidently. Buth then last night I am in my apartment, 8 stories up and all of a sudden I hear a car in the parking lot sounding its alarm. It goes on for a while and finally I have a look and it is MY car! It only has the passive alarm system, So I open my sliding glass door to my my balcony and hit the panic alarm button on my remote and it turns off. I go out to the car and it looks fine. I only have the passive alarm system and nobody was messing with the car as far as I can tell. What is going on? I have had the car for 3 years. I got a battery problem in my car or could it be a battery problem in my remote?

It sounds like you have a short in the remote that is triggering the buttons?

Or, maybe you are hitting the keys in your pocket? It doesn't seem possible on these remotes, but it is. You just have to get the angle perfect. You don't feel it being pushed either, just hear it (alarm) or come out to find it (trunk)
Remote

yeah but from 8 stories up in a closed apartment? Doors and windows closed? I thought it had to be line of sight.
It doesn't have to be line of sight.

I can set off my alarm from behind my front door, which is on the opposite side of my garage where my car is parked. So i'm shooting through my front door and the entire garage to my car and it still works. Its probably in your head, or someone brushed past your car.
i do know the tunk trigger is too short and or bends easily. i had the same problem. pop your trunk and bend the rubber booted trigger twards you and it should help, i actually bent the whole metal piece that it hangs on and havent had that problem since. as for the alarm i have no idea.

"It's probably in my head?" You talking about the trunk ajar message and the panic alarm? I was just imagining those things? Also the passive alarm doesn't go off when someone brushes against your car.

Supposedly, it does have to be, and with a 33 foot range. In reality, the key works from a pretty dang good distance. I unlock my car from a couple hundred feet away on a daily basis if I have line of sight, but it just shows the power the remote is putting out.

3 or 4 walls and 50 some feet in between me and the car have never been a problem for me as well.

yeah, the remotes DO have some pretty good distance. I'd recommend getting a new battery for the remote or possibly getting a new remote altogether.
sorry not much help but there was a post just a while back where guys were having that same problem with the trunks opening at random. maybe browse back a ways, or check in 05+talk maybe too. i cant remember where i saw it
and ya, if your car was locked, and the trunk popped open for some reason, it would set off the alarm. if you figure it out, be sure to post it
oh ya, forgot. also,,,if his car was locked and he popped the trunk with his remote, it would not set off the alarm. i open my trunk first coming out of stores to put stuff in the trunk, then unlock the car. my guess would be the other guy that said about the latch being bent maybe.
