Okay so my car has been running fine, but all of a sudden tonight when I went to leave my friends house it was having major issues As I walked up, I unlocked it with my fob, but the front headlights and markers didn't come on like they usually do, while the rears did as normal. I got in the car, and switched my headlights to the on position (still no markers or headlights), and went to start my car. When I did, the car would just turn over and turn over and turn over and never fire up. I turned my lights off and it fired up, but as soon as I would turn on the markers or headlights it would shut off immediately. If I ran it with the lights off, it wouldn't run for more than 15 seconds without killing itself.

Did have issues with my BAMA tuner about a week ago, because I couldn't get my new 93 race tune to load on my device, but I just went back to the tune I was running before (91 race) and have put hundreds of miles on it since with absolutely no issues.

Any insight? This sucks. My car is stuck at my buddy's house.

Have you checked all your fuses? Have you tried jumping the cars battery? That all sounds somewhat similar to what happened when my alternator went.. On an unrelated note, my battery went a week later. So it's possible its one of those.

I'm headed over to his house shortly to troubleshoot and try to figure it out. I'll check my fuses and try reloading the tune but other than that I have no idea what's going on.

I'm wondering if anybody has had similar issues? I searched and none of the issues I found are exactly what's happening to me. I can turn the car over and over and over so I know I have a good charge. It's just weird that it happened all of a sudden for no apparent reason. My car only has like 40k on it.

I returned to stock then reuploaded my tune with no success. My fuses are fine. Whenever the car is warming up, it's fine. However, as soon as it hits open loop and is at operating temperature, it shuts down on its own. Also turning on markers, headlights, radio, or even blinkers will shut it off. Kind of thinking an electrical short, or that I even might have fried my ECU.

Any input?

This really sounds like a weak alternator to me. I've replaced quite a few alternators that were causing weird symptoms, like the headlights not being able to turn on without dying, yet being okay with them off.

Also, how long does the car run before it enters closed loop (assuming this is what you meant)? I'm wondering if the alternator is just not producing enough power and the battery drains about the same time as the PCM switches to closed loop.

I suggest getting the car towed to a shop and have them test the alternator or just get a general diagnoses and see what they come up with. This would probably be your best bet.

Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Got it fixed. I had an exposed wire (which may or may not have been shorting it), but the problem was resolved by unplugging the negative terminal for about ten minutes, as well as unplugging the ECU and plugging it back in. No issues now.
