Most of the cruises or shows I go to are for classics. My friend owns and has restored several and I have done several signs for him. Most showed pics of him working on the car in its "basketcase stage "up until the finished product. We also included the specs of the engine and the rest of the car. One GTO he had done we included a copy of the window sticker which was a really cool thing for people to see. Most of what I have made are poster sized. The last 2 I did for him were for his custom 63 Vette and he puts it on an easel next to the car when he shows it. He will be at Super Chevy and Carlisle this year with the car.
For newer cars, like ours in a "shine and show" or modified cars, I would put a pic of before mods and after and a simple listing of what brand mods you have. If you have dyno results that would be cool too.
Some shows ask you not to display them also.

I put the rendering of the car followed by the statistics and mod list. I was using a poster frame on a home-made stand, but recently bought a professionally made car show display stand like this one:

If you'd like a copy of my earlier version which had a b/w S197 on it I can e-mail it to anyone who wants a copy, just PM me. It's an 18 x 24, black and white Microsoft Publisher file. Edit it however you want. You can take it to a Kinkos and have them print it. I have a large format plotter so I print my own.

This is basically a very low grade screen shot of what my placard looked like. For some reason my computer doesn't like the text at the top that says "2005 Mustang GT", with the 2005 in the circle. It's neater and cleaner in Publisher. I can't upload a Publisher file, otherwise I would just post it.

unless you got a buttload of engine/performance mods invisable to the naked eye, i'd skip the sign.
