Catch can full of oil after 1 week

I put the UPR catch can on my car about a week ago and thought I'd check it tonight to see how much blowby was in there if any. It was completely full of motor oil. Checked the oil level and it's over a quart low. The car is running perfect. I have no idea what could be causing this. Any ideas ? :happyhapp

That's not good. I would expect a few tablespoons full.

I run a breather on both sides and I am getting a fair amount of blow by from the passenger side filter? I have though about putting the stock setup back on with a catch can for the driver side.:scratchchin
I don't think it has anything to do with the catch can really. I had to add a quart of oil before my last oil change. I do have different valve covers that I got on ebay that have a different bolt hole pattern. They still bolted right up with no leaks, but now I'm wondering if this has something to do with it. I've had them on for at least 4000 miles. I might put the original ones back on soon. I just wonder how long this has been going on. I know it can't be good.

Also it's been very hot here that last few days and I have noticed my mileage has dropped from 18mpg to 14.
WOW! Well those are pretty small, right?

I need to check mine again (HUGE ebaY one)... But it maybe had a third of a tablespoon after a week. :scratchchin

It's about 1/3 quart. Not a small amount especially for only 1 week.

Do they have the oil baffles on the underside of the cover?

This is what I suspect also.

And if they do have the baffles the next step is a leakdown test. Everyone wants to figure out a different way of finding out what is going wrong when leakdown test is mentioned because in most cases they have to buy a tester and then spend the time doing it. But at the end of the day there is no other test (not even a compression test) that will tell you exactly what it is that you need to know. And that is if you are getting blow-by and pushig oil. The good side is if you do a leakdown test and it specs out good you don't have any serious issues and you can be 100% sure of it.:bigthumbsup

If I remember correctly, they both looked the same on the underside. The orginal ones are going back on today though.
Here's a couple pics of the 2 side by side.
I have the same UPR can. I get a tablespoon or two every week with a couple hundred miles a week. Did you get any smoke when the catch can was not on?

I don't have a can and I don't get any smoke. I think my blower eats the oil.:hihi:MmmmMmmm Goooood

They definintely have the baffles. Not sure why you'd be getting so much blow-by.
I must have a good engine because I run my oil for 8k and never loose any.
I put the original valve covers back on today. Just got back from the track...I drove there(70miles), made about 7 passes, and drove back. Hardly any oil in the catch can. I imagine the teaspoon or so of oil in there was from what was already in the line. Big relief. I don't know what the deal with those valve covers is. They might be from like an 05 or something. I know they won't be going back on though.

We all learn from our mistakes. :) I seem to learn daily. :so

Are you sure the baffling was 100% the same?:headscratch:

I want to pick some covers up and have some -16AN fittigs tig'd on to run to a breather tank. I wonder if I will need to baffel them too. Can you post a pic of the underside of the valve covers? If I do need to tig baffles i and you want to sell yours we may be able to work something out.:bigthumbsup

Check the first page of this thread. I posted some pics of both valve covers. They are slightly different. Let me know if you need some better pics and I'll take them. They are nice looking and I hated to put those ugly oxidized silver ones back on. :so

Here's a pic of the tops.
The only difference I can see on the inside is some of the fins are missing on the blue ones that might slow or divert the oil flow over the baffels. Looking at the service manual it looks like the bolt pattern is for a 2006. May be they changed for 2007. :headscratch: Are they Vista blue? Hmmmm sure would look good on Pegasus.:bigthumbsup
