I have a 2012 GT and this seems to happen every year when it first gets really cold out. The check engine light turns on because the cars is not heating up fast enough, I forget the code that shows up. I can usually bring it into the shop and pay the guy $20 to reset the computer and its all good, but anyway to prevent this? And any of you guys experience this?

Gonna need a little bit more info bud. The code would be a good start, then maybe your mods. On another note, you should be able to go to any Auto part store and have the code reset for free.

I would get this on my 09 when it's really cold out, but it's because of my LT headers. The O2's wouldn't heat up fast enough and it would throw a code.

It must be or is it P0500? P0050 and P0500 are two completely different codes.

If it is then:

#1 Check your connections.
#2 Swap the Bank 1 and Bank 2 sensors and see if the code changes or you keep getting the same one.
#3 If the code changes then replace the offending sensor.

O2 sensors are easy to replace but if they have been in a while make sure you use either a tubing wrench or a socket. An open end wrench doesn't work well.

Do as suggested here.

Fire your mechanic.

You can either go buy AutoZone, Advance, OReilly's and have them clear code or buy a $20-30 pocket scan device (from either of these parts stores) and delete codes yourself anytime if needed. Unless of course it's a more serious issue. FYI
