Anybody get a consistent "Check Gas Cap" error message on the led display on dash. It goes away if you reset the display. I checked the cap and it was on tight? Any ideas....:sterb:

Defective gas cap? I assume you've tried making it click several times. Do you have a handheld tuner you can use to see if the code is stored?
Happened to me once..stayed on for two days...i triple checked the gas cap, nothing abnormal...then it went away and has not returned in over a month..although I am now having the fuel tank replaced because I reported it is hard to fill up.....pump keeps popping off nless I stand on one leg, lean my elbow on the trunk, grab my right testi...oh never mind

Thats what I would do. Get a tuner. Going to the dealer usually takes to darn long.
code P0440 I believe would be the most common for EVAP code related to the cap.
"Check Gas Cap" error message on the led display on dash happened to me today. did your little engine light come on too. because mine is and i just bough this 05 gt 600 miles ago ( about a month) from a ford dealer here in phoenix.
help!
My daughters 06 GT's check gas cap light was coming on but I don't think she was getting it tight enough. She makes sure to make it click now and it hasn't done it in a while.
I just replaced mine a couple weeks ago after 3 1/2 years. Just pick up a new Stant cap.
Mine came on about two weeks ago on interstate. I pulled off, re-attached, still on... Tried a few more times later, still on... Then later, started car and no light. Hasnt happened since, but do have the problem with putting gas in the car... pump always kicks off like it is full... What is up with that?:headscratch:

That's a known defect. TSB 07-21-12 addresses this.

+1 on the TSB. However, I have to grab my LEFT testicle as opposed to Bobbo having to grab his right... Go figure. :scratchchin
I was going to type up what I remember of EVAP systems from school, but I figured "Why not let the internet do the work?"

OBD-II Trouble Code: P0456 Evaporative Emissions System - Small leak detected

Translated into real people-talk it means that your ECU applies engine vacuum to the gas tank to keep vapors from escaping when you take your gas cap loose.

Potential causes for the light to come on:
leaving the gas cap loose
vacuum leaks
EVAP system leaks

On a side note, when I was a technician I once replaced the EVAP canister on a Maxima because it was saturated with gas. The owner was cramming their gas tank full and ruined it. When your tank fills and the pump shuts off, you can go to the nearest quarter, but I personally don't go further.
