Checked Spark Plugs - Running LEAN

3769 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  squid
I changed spark plugs a few days ago and replaced my MSD6a-BTM with a Crane Hi-6s. Since then my 93 GT has been backfiring, surging and not performing as one would expect. I put in a bottle of RedLine Fuel Injection Cleaner and drove about a hundred miles to see if i could "drive" it back into normal condition but that doesn't seem to work.

I pulled the spark plugs out found them to be in almost brand-new condition! The plugs are absolutely clean. I am running very very lean!

What can i do get the gasoline to flow again? The Crane appears to be working and I'm running 190lph and a Vortech T-Rex pump.

Thanks.

What gap are you running?
Be careful when reading efi plugs.Computer controlled cars with efi tend to have plugs that look lean even when running right or even rich. My plugs always look lean, like new when I pull them yet on the dyno my a/f ratio was way rich. Only way to really tell for sure is with a wideband a/f ratio or at the very end of a full throttle run shut the car off and pull the plug. You must not let the car idle or it will throw your reading off. Shut the car off, coast to the return lane and if your not causing trouble pull a plug or two.
