you can use it with the stock motor but you should do the whole thing at once or you wont notice much difference do the lower intake, upper intake and throttle body I would reccomend going with a 70mm t/b and do a cai you will notice a differnce in acceleration, power and tourqe :bigthumbsup
It's a simple swap, you just need new gaskets and then enough coolant to refill the radiator and then you'd do an oil change to get any coolant that went into the engine when you were swapping parts.

You can use it on a stock engine but you'll get a couple of horses. You'll get more should you upgrade the heads later on.
thanks guys your alot of help:bigthumbsup
Damn, I want my moms mountaineeer!!

Hey guys, i have a 86 GT that is speed density. Can i run the Cobra intake with out switching to Mass Air? Would it cause idel problems?
You would be Fine IMHO. Nothing major has changed.
yeah youd be ok all your doing is adding air and speed density runs off manifold absolute pressure so your good. a big cam is what effects the SD systems:bigthumbsup
I have an '86 GT Vert with a Cobra intake and I'm still using the Speed density computer with stock heads and cam and the car runs great. However...
When the intake was first installed, the gasket that comes with it wasn't properly lining up between the lower intake and the block, causing the intake to suck oil up into the heads, fouling the 2 rear spark plugs and burn lots of oil.
At first we thought it was the valve seals on the heads, but when we pulled the intake, we realized it was that gasket. So, another gasket was used and it still sucked up a little bit of oil, so we eventually bypassed the PCV valve and installed a breather cap.
Problem solved...

What size throttle body should I use with this set up? 65m or 70m? Any particular manufacture?
Get a 70mm Accufab throttle body. I have a 65mm on my car that's probably 15 plus years old and it works fine.
