Most cold air intakes are just for looks. On a f150 forum I'm on they took a truck and dyno tested 10 different cold air intakes only one gained any power was 3hp a couple lost power. Its best to run a tall open air cleaner they work great and are cheap.

that is true! You are much better off with the open air cleaner. Me and a friend modified a K&N cold air intake to go on my 1966 Mustang and it added 2HP. It is not worth the money and it does not add anything to it.

I think you would be a lot better off, to use a wood/plastic spacer on the carb to get it off the intake manifold. Then use plastic washers under the nuts that secure the carb to the intake. Then use a good filter. You would be suprised at the extra horse power gains from dropping the temp of your carb down a few degrees. I just did it with my 72 mustang which has a 302 and an edelbrock intake and carb. I also drilled into the side of the carb and added a vent, so the carb wasnt breathing its own fuel vapors from the small edelbrock vents on the top of the carb. I gained an actuall 15hp on the dyno at the rear wheels just by doing that.
