I think you would be a lot better off, to use a wood/plastic spacer on the carb to get it off the intake manifold. Then use plastic washers under the nuts that secure the carb to the intake. Then use a good filter. You would be suprised at the extra horse power gains from dropping the temp of your carb down a few degrees. I just did it with my 72 mustang which has a 302 and an edelbrock intake and carb. I also drilled into the side of the carb and added a vent, so the carb wasnt breathing its own fuel vapors from the small edelbrock vents on the top of the carb. I gained an actuall 15hp on the dyno at the rear wheels just by doing that.
