Colder spark plugs for nitrous??

8188 Views 26 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  psfracer
I have a zex system on my 2005 GT 3V. Currently running only the 100 hp jets with a nitrous tune (sct) because I can not find a colder spark plug for the 3V. Does anyone know of a manufacturer that offers a colder plug yet?:?: Until then the 150hp will have to wait, better safe then sorry:help:

Thanks 2K5stang!!! Here comes the 150 shot:evillol: . By the way, looked at your car photos that you have posted...what a sleeper! Like the color to. How do you get 447 rwhp to the ground with those tires?

what else are you changing for the nitrous besides plugs? dd you have to retard the timing? or will you for the 150? did you need a tune? can you use the sct tuner with nitrous? will the 3v take the full 175 shot?? (im thinking about ZEX for mine, and info would be greatly appreciated!:kooky:

So far I have run many, many runs at the 100hp level with no problems at all and the only modifications being the cold air kit, tune, and exhaust.
You will need a tune. I use SCT. The tune I use turns off the traction control, raises the shift points and redline, makes the shifts much, much firmer, and retards the timing. For the 100hp setting, I actually just have the stock fatory timing (since its not aggressive at all). But to run the 150 the timing should be retarded about 4 degrees and you should run colder plugs. AND OF COURSE, always run the best gas available--not 87---run 92 octane.

Also, the SCT has room for 4 programs. I have the original Factory setting, one program for 100hp, one for 150hp, and one for non-nitrous just using 87 octane. To flash the computer takes literally just seconds.

I just went to the web site and it came back saying it has no spark plugs for a 2005 Mustang GT. What gives????:?:

Edit: Just went back again and put in just the part number. It shows the plug (at just over $10.00 each :eyebulge: ) without an application to what it fits.
Anyone selling the gap setting tool. I saw a picture of one in a Mustang Mag. a few months back but it was a custom made tool.
PSFRacer, I have a few q's for you. Did you get a dyno tune for your 100shot?
Did you run that 12.63 on street tires? And how much does it cost to fil a bottle?
Thanks
Sean

I noticed the same thing but I read on the other post about Got zex installed that limestang05 said that part # ht1 is factory plug and ht0 is the colder plug, maybe you can call them up (www.sparkplugs.com), I will try to do it today if I can find time at work. Yes the $10 is a lot but well worth it if it saves your engine!!

sweet man, thanks .... is that the Xcal 1 or 2 you are runnin'?:?:
I got my plugs in the mail yesterday. Remember, the number is HT0-(ZERO). I was charged $9.27 per plug. (dealer cost?). Anyway, I had to call cause the computer wont pull up that number and the first girl I talked to had trouble too! She got me in touch with another guy who works there who just so happens to own a super-charged '05 and he had the whole scoop. I think his name was Mike.

Even though the price seems high....try to buy replacement plugs from Ford....I think they are around $13 each. When you look at them you'll see that they aren't like anything I've ever seen before.

My Zex kit still hasn't arrived yet, but I called a couple of days ago and found out that it had not been shipped! The company that I bought it from on Ebay forgot to ship it....six days later when I called them, they were so deperate to make it right that they offered to refund me $100 or throw in a "purge" kit. This may not sound like much, but the kit was on sale in the first place for $499.88! I took the purge kit because I was going to get one anyway and they cost alot more than $100.

Unlimited Speed? I am waiting on one from them off ebay. They don't admit it but I suspect the same thing.
I goofed my previous post. I'm still waiting for the same reason. PSFRACER, are you able to drive around town with the nitrous tune? Diablosport was suggesting I change between daily driver tune, and nitrous tune.

I drive back and forth to work on the 87 octane tune, the shifts are much more crisp, I hate the factory settings...the shifting is so sluggish. I actually carry the Xcal 1 in my car, because changing the tune takes just seconds anyway. If I think there is any chance I may use nitrous, I just load that tune. The tune I have for the 100hp is easily driveable everyday also.

I run the Xcal 1.....if anyone has stepped up to the XCAL 2 and thinks it is worth it let me know...I am curious.

I ran 12.63 on street tires...if you see my mph it really shows, any car going 110 in the 1/4 should be in the 12.30's. I did not get a dyno tune, and it costs me $3.50 per lb to refill the bottle. Some places charge as much as $4.00 per lb. Still a bargin if you as me, considering I didn't have 5k laying around for a nice SC.

which tires are you using to get your car to hook up?

At one time I wondered myself if it was worth it. I went to the XCAL2 and it IS worth it. XCAL2 holds more tunes, you can change parameters using Extreme tune software and last week my tuner made some changes where I can change parameters using the XCAL2 as a stand alone, no need for a laptop or software.....very cool!
Got the new Autolite #HT0 plugs in today. I took close up pictures of the difference of the colder plug vs the stock motorcraft plugs if anyone is interested. The pictures are in my gallery.

Also, I have pictures of the stock plug after some passes on the 75 and the 100hp setting on a Zex kit. I use a tune from SCT, but the timing is just factory stock, used 91 octane gas.

I found a Unocal 76 which sells 100 octane (at $5.99 gal:eyebulge:) , has anyone run the 150 shot yet? I am going to try the 150 when I go to California Speedway on November 12th. I figure the conservative timing, with colder plugs and 100 octane gas, I should be fine. Any thoughts?:?:
Can't you run your NOS tune at all times...?? Maybe that's just GOOD custome tunes...?? since your ZEX/NOS is set to kick in at WOT it can be tuned to run a 'normal' 93 oct tune till that point, then it will move the timing to alow for the nos mix...

No clue with 100 blue + gass... you're really playing with the timing on that one.. would have a pro tuner to look at it and make sure it's safe on a dyno with data logging!
Hey KJ,

Any shops you are willing to recomend in SOCAL area? Bottle Blown Racing looks good, any others?

I think your right....even though I have been running the 100 hp setting with no problems at all, its time for a dyno tune if I want to get serious....
