I am restoring my 1968 Mustang convertible J-code. Car is all original with the exception that it had been re-painted (Maroon Red) and new rear quarters put on sometime in its previous years. It currently needs new floors which I am doing. The car is currently striped of all parts and interior. After floors I will be painting the car. The interior going back in will be original black as will the top. The original factory color was Medowlark Yellow. I also like a metallic grey color. I am torn as to which way to go. What are the thoughts here on the forum? Car is original Power steering and power disc brakes, power top, 302 4brl and C-4 auto. Still retains original intake, air cleaner, and exhaust and steel wheels.

Thanks,
Steve

Good question. Isn't the Meadowlark yellow the pale yellow? Grey metallics are nice had a couple cars that color. I'd like to offer a couple suggestions. I have a '67 Cougar that I'm doing after the '65 2+2 is done. I decided on a dark green metallic. This decision was based on looking at every Cougar I could find in different colors. Some looked good in some colors other's looked crappy in some colors. After deciding on the color, a friend bought a '67 Cougar the same friggin' color. My Mustang wound up Toreador Red ( beautiful red metallic)after another friend talked me out of Torch Red ( Fire Engine red). Look around, take your time and look at the color books. There's some awesome colors out there. With a black interior and top, that car would be bitchin' triple black. My 2 cents.

Thanks for the input. Yes, Meadowlark Yellow is pale, kinda like a faded Post-It Note. I have been looking at pictures online. Can't find many convertible examples of either color, think there were less then 2000 Meadowlark Yellow 68s made and metallic grey was not a factory color in 1968. I go to many car shows and cruises, and have yet to find a physical example of either color....in fact, do not see too many convertible 1968s...lots of fastbacks though. Keep the opinions coming.

Thanks, Steve

The gray with the 1968 black or navy accent stripes would look great.

6566Coupe. I'd take almost anything over Ivy green. My son's first car, when he turned 16 back in 1994, was a 65 Coupe. The original color had been Ivy Green. The man we bought the car from had made it Wimbledon White. After we restored it, my son went with a non Ford Winter White that looked fantastic. I was happy not to have the Ivy Green.

My 68 Vert is Lime Gold with Ivy Gold interior, but that's a whole 'nother animal from Ivy green.

I would go with the original color. I wish mine was the original color but it was painted when I got it.
