I have a chance to get a 1969 302 that came out of a mercury cougar. with a C4

I plan on carbing my car as the orginal owner completely screwed up the wiring in this car. (young kid dumb as a post)

I know mass air is the way to go I just can't justify spending that much money and time to find where all the wires go etc... and fix the hack job.

I just want to go old school muscle ( IE carb motor automatic)

This is strictly a street strip car.

The 69 302 is a non roller block.....

That's the only real difference, one accepts a roller cam and the other is made for a flat tappet cam.

Arguably, the '69 heads are superior to the E7's on the '89 motor.

IMHO, stick in a nice mild flat tappet cam (something in the 220-230 range, 480-510 lift, 112 seperation, preferably split pattern), RPM or Stealth intake, and a 600-650 carb, plus headers and exhaust, that '69 will make a nice motor.
