Considering getting a Hood Scoop

2955 Views 17 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Vlad
Well it is summer again and I am bored. However, unlike last summer, I am not working (looks like companies are not looking for interns right now...go figure) so my budget is tight to say the least. Because of that performance mods (which is what I prefer) are out. I have been pondering on giving my stang a more aggressive look and I was thinking about a hood scoop. I found a few on ebay that come prepainted for a pretty good price.

Have you gals and guys heard of any of these people? Do you have any suggestions? Preferences? Perhaps you can recommend a different mod that is not too expensive (ie not over 200)

Thanks Much.

Don't buy a hood scoop. Ricer mod. They are fake. Get the hood with the scoop.

I don't agree with you at all. Yes they are not functional, but they really make the car stand out just like any other cosmetic mod you out on your car. They make the car more aggressive looking, which is not ricerish. Think about it, not only do many members of this forum have hood scoops, but hood scoops come from the factory and even on Roush models. Not everyone can afford a new hood.

I would go with a Roush hood scoop. Thats what I have, and they look great. I bit more expensive, but IMO worth it.:bigthumbsup

How much did you guys pay for your scoop painted and all?

159.00 for the roush scoop and i paid 100.00 to get it painted( but the torch red cost the most of all the colors) thats not much over your 200 budget. its a real nice scoop. comes with a real good pattern. heres a small install thread i did. its a easy install. you will never want a car without a scoop again :D

Why just stop at a hood scoop. You could get other useless non-functional things such as these high class fender stick on vents...
:nono:I think that the hood scoop is a no-go at this station.:nono:

I don't know about you, but I would rather get a new hood. There is this heat extractor hood I found for $300 w/ free shipping: 2005-2009 Mustang Heat Extractor Hood

Although its unpainted, you could make it into a project. But it's up to you, good luck! :hihi:

I would love a new hood but the hood is 300 plus having it painted and color matched not to mention the shipping. If I had that kinda cash I'd do performance.

I paid $245 shipped and painted recently when Moss Muscle had a sale. I just got their catalog and the prices have gone up, so I'd recommend buying it unpainted and getting a local shop to paint for you. It shouldn't be more then $75 to $100 for paint.

Well if you think about it, alot of things are just for looks and not functional. Interior work, sequential tail lights, window louvers, wheels, ect. all fall into the same category as a hood scoop and we still add these things. Although if I had the money, I would most definitely get a shaker hood scoop.:bigthumbsup

I'm not saying that cosmetic mods aren't nice, just that a fake hood scoop is useless IMHO. But hey, if there is one thing I've learned, is to each his own.

Vlad- don't worry about what other people think. If you want to add something to your car, go right ahead as it's YOUR car! Good luck with your hood scoop. BTW- I'm considering getting one myself!

Vlad here is a great deal. Amazon is still trying to liquidate these things. I looked at your profile and it looks like you have a windveil blue pony package just like me. I ordered mine pre-painted from amazon around christmas. They only have one left!!
Amazon.com: Roush Performance 401799 Hood Scoop Kit: Automotive
Hope that helps you out. If you want some pics of what it'll look like let me know and I'll find the one I took.

Yeah I have been looking at that one. Pictures would be great. Especially to see how well the color matches. I am very picky...

Here is a photo with it on. The roush hood scoop from amazon matched perfectly. You should have no issues on that front. If you want closer pics I'll try to get you some.
