Ok....when I purchased my GT it came with the optional convertible boot cover. I have never used it however. But since I am still on track to do a car show this weekend, I decided to take it out of the closet and see if I could put it on and how it would look.

After attempting to do that....I think even I could rebuild the transmission easier !!!

OMG what a pain in the a s s. I never got the thing on. I gave up.

Is it supposed to be that difficult to put this thing on ????

I have 96 convertible and mine is just as difficult. You would figure they would have made it easier by 07,but looks like it isn't.I end up using two people at least to put mine on.If not you spend a lot of time running from one side of the car to the other.

Well, you were starting to install mods to your own car.
stlwagon said you should be able to install the Agent47 mirrors.
And now comes this convertible top boot debacle.
Just when we were about to establish the phrase "so easy even FuzzyDice could do it".

I've owned 3 convertibles in my life and all 3's boot covers were tough to get on. That's why they get lost, from being put away...

I think they look find without the boot, just keep the top treated.

Installation of Convertible Top Boot

Ok Fuzzy... Here is a quick pictorial I just made showing you how to install your boot. Follow these steps and you will be showing your stead in no time! ;)

Step 01: Lay out the cover.
Step 01a: Tuck the tongue (long tab) on the back of the boot into the top well.
Step 02: Locate plastic thingy on back of boot.
Step 02a: Push plastic tab thingy down into well until it "snaps" into place. Repeat this procedure on the other side of the boot.
Step 03: Locate the other plastic tab thingy on the side of the boot.
Step 03a: Push plastic tab thingy down into quarter area until it "snaps" into place. Repeat this procedure on the other side of the boot.
Step 04. Locate the plastic hook on the back of the rear seat headrest and the "bungie" cord on the front of the boot.
Step 04a: Using both hands (it's easier) work the front of the boot down between the top and the rear seat and "hook" the bungie onto the seat hook. Repeat this procedure on the other side of the boot.
Step 5: (Almost there!)
Step 5a: Give the front boot "legs" as squeeze and work them down into the quarter panel area. Repeat on the other side of the boot.

Now, tug and push the boot around until you are satisfied with the fit. When perfected, you will be able to install the boot in under 2 minutes! Good luck!

i think MR V's hard cover would be a heck of a lot easier to install than the soft boot cover. I plan on not using the boot while i am doing my 1,300 mile round trip from NJ to NC in exactly 30 days. The "Z" folding top of the mustang looks a lot cleaner than other convertibles that i have seen. Even the "New Edge" GT vert i say today with its top down did not look as clean as my top does.

That was well done, wasn't it?

Fuzzy, even my all-thumbs manual skills learned to do it pretty quick after (ahem) some practice.

But it is a not-well-done arrangement, truly. I really liked and depended on the tonneau covers that my Brit cars came with.
snap-snap-zip, and there you were.

Yes, it is akward at best....hence why I jumped on the opportunity to have a hard convetible boot cover (tonneau cover) for my convertible....much, much easier to install and looks fabulous...the only down side is if you are caught in a sudden down pour, getting it off adds time to your top closing time.

I never had any issues with my 98 GT Vert...I did notice it was easier in hot weather so the material was easier to stretch...

As a matter of fact, prior to my retirement, I wrote training manuals in the Air Force. Like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Problem was, I had to use a thousand words to explain the pictures in the training materials. :frustrated:

I've never used mine-it's a permanent garage resident. I think the top looks fine down without it. Way better than my previous Sebring convertible looked with or without the boot.

I spent a year at Sheppard one month ...

Photo Interpretation school. Was actually 16 weeks, 1956. Not my favorite experience, but I got an education in school and in town. Partially due to some good training manuals.
