It's that time of year here in the Great White North........blossoms from the trees are falling all over the place. I can't leave my car parked in the driveway with the top down or it will be full of crab apple blossom petals. Which made me wonder: where does all the stuff that gets stuck between the convertible top and the body disappear to? I've tried to scoop it out with my fingers, but I always lose some of it down into "the black hole". I'm worried that this crap is plugging up a drainage hole down there somewhere. Does anyone know? Is there a better way of cleaning this junk out? I don't want to cause some corrosion down there because of drains holes plugged up.:headscratch:

There is 2 drains, one per side at the back sides behind the quarter windows, near the trunk. These drain out the bottom of the quarter panel near the rear marker light...Below is a pic of my 07 Convertible with the lh quarter removed. The blue hose is the drain tube.

Thanks Alan,:bigthumbsup
But you didn't have to take your rear quarter off to show me!:gringreen
I guess the only way to clear a blocked drain line would be to blow it backwards with an air gun. It's easy to see how they could become plugged. Something to think about..............

I just replaced my quarter due to an acident last month, I thought it would provide a good pic for you to see the actual drain hose. LOL

convertible water drain

From my experience, those upper drains do not handle much (if any water). Most of the water runs forward to the small windows, and pools in front of the wheel well. Dirt and debris also falls into this pocket. There is a drain that is very hard to see or clean. I could not find any access from underneath, although it may be possible. I lowered the top, lowered the windows. I removed the top plastic interior cover over the convertible top mechanism. I removed the interior window rubber weatherstrip. (both pull off). Looking straight down alongside the window, near the door, there is a plastic plug sticking up about an inch through the bottom of the car. You need to be looking more toward the interior than the exterior sheetmetal. It is maybe 3-4 inches back from the door. It is very dark and there is almost no angle to see it clearly.

I used a shopvac, with 5/8" heater hose, and 1/2" bendable copper tubing to get down there to clean it up. I also attached a toothbrush head to an aluminum arrow shaft, and used that to scape around and loosen up any leaves, pine needles etc.

For light I would think a flexible fiberoptic light wand would be great (wish I had one). I used a mirror to reflect sunlight, or you may do better in the dark with a flashlight/droplight.

I know this is an old thread, but this seemed the best place to post this info. The picture from deathrat does not have the angle to see the area in front of the wheel well that I am describing. If anyone knows an easier way to clean these, let me know.

I live in New Orleans and we just had very heavy rains for 3 days, 2" per hour.

The back seat was wet and I heard sloshing water when I pushed on the middle of the drivers side back seat compartment, the upper section dry.

I took out the back sear (lower section) and the well just under the seat was fillled with water.

After searching fot the source of the water for about 2 hours and cleaning out the well just infront of the rear wheel, just under the rear small window by running water in this space with the water running out the weep holes under the car, if you have too much water, the water will not drain fast enough, the holing area fills up and over flows into the back seat well.

You also need to clean out this area to keep leaves and other trash that gets in there, that can plug up the weep holes.

This is a big problem if you leave your car out in very heavy rain.

2007 V6 Convertible leaked into 1/4 panel, Remedied

I joined this forum just to say thanks to the posters who originally responded to the convertible top / 1/4 panel water collection problem.

With your images and posts I was able to remedy the drainage problem, at least for now. The car is a 2007 v6 convertible with 70k.

Here's what I did:
1. Put top down, and rear 1/4 windows up
2. I angled a mag-light so I could see water pooled down near the bottom closer to the door.
3. Reach down into the 1/4 panel with a long wire brush (or tooth brush) Using the brush, feel for the drain collector guard (see pic from other poster, looks like the thing on a house's rain gutter to prevent leaf blockage. It was closer to the door and inboard side as described earlier. It's about a 1/2 across and 1/4 inch high.
4. Scrub on, around, anywhere else near it and poke at it with the bristles.
5. Soon enough, water started draining out the bottom of the car.

Getting access to these drain tubes from the underside would be super difficult w/o a coat hanger and having the car in the air somewhat. The water drains out between metal seams just inboard from the plastic rockers.

I have pooling under my back seat as well. I noticed a rubber plug under it so I just pushed the plug in/down as it was easier than pulling it out. I'm sure it will drain now but I hope it wasn't a bad idea. I know this is an old post but I just started having the problem.

That did it! Thank you. Top down, rear windows up. Was able to reach in and find the drain "Crown", under about two inches of water. Used a small shop vac, with a 1" business end. Was able to vac out the water and most of the derbies.

Thanks again!

New to the convertible world...I have had my 2008 for less then 2 weeks and noticed the back seat wet. Sure as what you stated..found the back seat well to be filled enough to cause this problem. A bit frustrated. I will work on the weep areas as soon as it stops raining. Thank you!
