Coolant Reservoir Tank Cap leaking

16466 Views 6 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  stlwagon
Bought an '05 Mustang GT 3 weeks ago, and it has already been back to the dealer twice for a coolant leak problem. It still leaks coolant from under the reservoir cap when I shut down a warm engine.
Anyone seen similar problems?

Thanks,
Mark

Have not heard about that... I'd be back at the dealer telling them to GET IT RIGHT!
I took mine in a few weeks back to get the from end looked at (couldn't duplicate the problem), and to get the whine in the back end looked at. A few days later I saw a puddle under my car. I did the finger taste test and sure enough it was antifreeze. I thought maybe it was overfilled and just came out. I didn't think about it until a couple of day later when I stopped at a gas station for cigs. I was walking out and saw a monster puddle under the car. The resevoir is empty now and i've been checking the radiator regularly. I need to take it in but last time they kept the car from 7am until 6pm.

I took it in for the following:
Front end popping (i've got a manual tranny)
Back-end whine (they said it was coming through the center console, BS.)
Global windows (they said not since the car was built in May)

Not trying to steal you thread bubba.

Not sure about the Coolant leak but I had the issue with the rear end whine. Ended up that the backlash from the factory was way off. They had to replace the rear end. No more whine.

About a month after I bought mine (3/05) I had the same problem. They replace the entire reservior tank for me.

I see you posted this a few years ago but I have the same problem with an 07 GT, was ok until 2nd oil change at Maroone Ford, some monkey screwed the cap on wrong or a little of center its supposed to click like the gas cap when tight, (never open when hot !) sometimes it does sometimes it dosent, I brought it in after it dumped a few gallons on the ground at work the other day, they gave me a loaner but cost me $20.00 a day insurance, so $40.00, my cap originally said 14psi on it the new one says 16psi, before I left dealer I opened hood to check it out and noticed the bottle was low still I asked for them to top it up they did, as I stood there the guy screwing the cap back on kept turning it and no clicking, he called a tech/ manager over they went and got another cap and the manager screwed it on and it clicked...I left ... drove home ...got home small amount of coolant bleeding out of bottle again no major leak as yet, but I feel it will need a new bottle ultimatly, Im thinking about wrapping maybe one or two layers of ptfe plumbers white tape around threads of bottle lid to tighten it up.. we'll see, between leaving work early overfilling the rental car's gas accidently and the insurance on renter, I would have been better off just buying the part my self, dont believe its cured yet, curious what happened you in the end?.
I have another problem since the 1st day with getting the car into 1st gear like one bad tooth on synchro, and with clutch depressed to floor when I do engage 1st (even new) the rear end clunks like as though the clutch is not disengaging fully, been in twice for that they swear they cant replicate it, it happens me 6 out of 10 shifts, anyone else ?:scratchchin as I sit with the service tech all I hear her saying on the phone to everyone is we could not replicate the problem ?? wtf?? I though they get payed on this stuff what the hell is wrong with them, been to several dealers, some dont give loaners either, they are literally lying about my gear problem, trust me anyone attempting to drive this car would agree, how many times do I need to bring it in?

Stu

They may be better off replacing the entire reservoir.
