Hi forum,

Duane from Arizona here.
I was looking through the forum relating to head removal on my 2002 Mustang GT Convertable 4.6L with 153,000 miles. I saw a couple posts asking the same question and saw a few posts asking the same question. Unfortunately the question was answered by a couple members but most went off another direction.
I overheated the motor and now have a blown head gasket. I am going to do both gaskets and heads once removed. I have a extensive program called Alldata and when going into the engine section for removing heads it said to remove the engine and then the heads.
This is the same program as most repair shops and has never steered me wrong.
Can anyone provide me with the answer? I don't want to do the repair, and since it appears to be quite a job in frame, I want to do it 100% correct without risks.
The overheating problem was found and fixed so I don't need to go into diagnosing the problem.
Sorry so lengthy but I have spent a few hours researching online and would like an expert opinion if possible.

Leaving the engine in to do a head job is more of a time saver than easier. It would be easier to go the extra mile and remove the engine and have it on a stand to do the job. If I were doing this job to make money I'd leave the heads in to save the time.

Choice is yours really.
