Hey all had my top slashed in a failed attempt to get stuff from my car and got an estimate of $2900 to replace the top with a factory replacement. Went to another place and they quoted me the same for an aftermarket lol. The $2900 seems high, should I try some other shops?

Never replaced one before, but almost had to on a past convertible. With that said yes that price does seem very high. From a quick search on sites many on here use for parts tops range from around $700 under if I saw right in the quick search. So installing yourself could be under 1K. Now installation I have no idea, but guessing here should be around a few hundred dollars. Again guessing on all this from quick google searching.

If your top was slashed are you planning on going through insurance as I am sure they can help you out on cost and locations. Personally I would try not to go through insurance as rates will likely increase more than the replacement will cost you over 3 years, but just wanted to throw it out there.

Doing it myself is out of the question. Already have a payment for $2900 so technically I'm paying cash and not going through insurance.
I had mine (on a 2012) done this year and all told, it was about $2K. Parts were about $1,200 -- and that was with reusing the liner. If yours was damaged, then your estimate might not be unusual.

A slashed top goes under a comprehensive claim, and should not result in an increase in insurance premium.

Really depends on insurance carrier these days to be honest. They are getting tighter and tighter on what they let slip thorough without increasing rates from what I have heard from friends who have had to file claims for hail damage, deer hits, and things like that use to be comprehensive and didn't increase rates, but now are at least in my area...
