Custom ordering time from ordering to delivery?

This past weekend I "purchased" a 2014 GT in deep impact blue with the track pack. However this car was a couple hours away and the dealership told me it would be here Monday. Well I get a call Monday from my dealership saying somebody messed up and thought the car was on the lot. Turns out, "my" mustang is displayed in a mall and under contract with the mall to stay there. They've looked all over the country and cannot find another one. They are suggesting I either pick another color or do a custom order. They're trying to get me in a black track pack car but since I already have a black mustang, I don't want another black one. I'm wondering if anybody has been through this process of custom ordering a car? How long does it take from the time you order to the time the car is delivered? They're telling me 4 weeks if the dealership is running full speed or 6 weeks if they are a little slow. I don't think it'll be this quick quite honestly.

I would say 6 to 8 is average and 4 weeks is smoking fast. Also depends on how many allocations your dealer has, the priority of the order. Once ford picks up the order and you get a VIN the process is fairly fast. The biggest issue I would ask the dealer is if they have an allocation for your order. I ordered from a small dealer and waited 13 weeks to have my car delivered, I would recommend a larger dealer if you're in a hurry. Also check out the below link for more information. Good luck

Thank you hicks. The dealer i'm going through is a pretty big dealer right outside Dallas. I'm going to guess the order will be put in within a week or two. I looked at some other forums and some people said theirs took 4 months (16 weeks) but that was because of a shortage of brembo brakes last year. I'm only going to get a deep impact blue GT w/ the track pack and cloth recaros in black charcoal.

I placed my order March 1st and was told 6-8 weeks. I took delivery on March 29th, so needless to say I was pretty happy with the early delivery. Good luck, it's worth the wait to get what you want!

7 Weeks for me. Depending on your dealer and their allocation that's about average from what I've seen.
You should get your VIN within 2 weeks.

DFW is a big place. However, I went through North Central Ford in Richardson, TX. I didn't go to the dealer I went through Costco and then called their internet sales people, Debbie Griffin. Told them what I wanted, performance white GT with track package and Recaro seats, they ordered it saying it would take 4 to 6 weeks. I didn't walk into the dealership until they said the car was there, everything was done over emails and phone calls. 28 days later I get the call that it's there on the lot.

The bigger the dealership and the more Mustangs they sell, the faster it will be delivered. I went to a smaller dealership and waited 13 weeks from ordering to delivery.

DFW sure is a big area lol. I ordered the car from Town East Ford. I was going to go with North Central but they were giving me the run-a-round on a deep impact blue track pack car. I called my salesman and he told me mine shouldn't take more than 6 weeks since they are a bigger dealership.

As of yesterday the flat rock plant received my order. Now it's time to play the waiting game.

I ordered two vehicles one week apart. They both came in around 7 weeks later, one week apart. They were built in two different factories. One was a mustang and one was a cmax. I would think it would be between 6-8 weeks.

Daysha was great and kept me up to date on both cars btw. She rocks!
