With all the new cars being delivered, thought I'd reopen an old issue. Do any of you have daytime running lights (DRL) operating as delivered? Have any of you had the dealer set up the DRL's by tweaking the computer? Any DRL's working with HID's?

Thanks for your info.

Yes, in Canada daytime running lights have been standard since around 1990. Basically, it means the hi-beams are on, at a reduced voltage, when the car is running, but they turn off in Park or when handbrake is pulled. A great safety feature.

So my piece to add here, is that my 2001 Cobra, which was originally sold in California, doesn't have DRL. I want them. Is there a kit available to install on my car? Or should I just wire up my foglights to be on all the time, and forget about all the controls? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

drl's are cool but, really how hard is it to turn on your headlights when you buckle up. i automatically do both when i get in. force of habit type thing.

My pony package v6 came with the auto headlights. Pretty neat how they come on when I go through the tunnels.

The grille foglights are the DRL's on HID-optioned 'Stangs sold to our friends in Canada.

DRL's are a fleet option in the US, but only on non-HID cars. Don't know if they can be activated through the SJB.

Any idea what the daytime running lights are on a V6 with HID's?
In Canada, the Pony V6 comes with fogs so those are the DRL's w/HID's, no HID option for any base model.

DRL install

Bought my stang in the states and moved back to Canada ...... I called the dealer in Canada and asked if they can turn this on via the program. They said They didn't know and I would have to bring it in but they did know it would cost $320 to install ...... go figure. I bought the Ford Module F6RZ-13B218-AA and installed it myself for $100 bucks. There are cheaper modules out there such as HAMSAR but in this case i decided to spend a little extra and stay with an approved ford part. BTW I hooked these to the fog lamps.

I'm in Canada and I'd like to do the opposite: I.e. turn off the fogs as DRLs. Mainly I'd like to put a set of real driving lights in there instead of the fogs. The HID low is pretty good on these cars but, the high is weak in reach. If I could run low with driving lamps that'd be good for poorly lit country roads.

This ford module I put in runs them at a lower power so not sure if adding regular lamps would increase your range. HAMSAR says that their module runs the DRLS at full power. I put a HAMSAR in my jeep and I don't see a reduction in the intensity of the lamp. That maybe the module to get. So how would you get around the DRL you have now?

As far as I can tell, the stock Canadian Ford DRL setup runs the fogs full bright...they are just 45 watt 9145 bulbs factory anyway. I pulled those in the first week and put some 9005 Nighthawks in there, which means 65 watts each + Nighthawk improvement over regular halogen. So far so good one year on but, the design of the lamp is pure foglight so there's zero reach with them. I do get flashed occasionally though by people thinking I have my high beams on.

Ultimately, I run lights most of the time anyway so, I don't really need DRL and, I'd like to just switch it off and go with some real lights I can control in the stock fog loaction. Looks to me I could get old-fashioned Hella 500s to work with a little fangling.
