Daytime Running Lights

I would like to add Daytime Running Lights to my 05 and 06 Mustang GTs.
If DRLs are required in Canada, there must be a way to do it.
If a module or relay can't be added, does anyone know a way to get the job done by just adding a jumper or a wire so that the headlights, or fog lights come on automatically when the vehicle is running.

DRL's

I believe it will take more then a jumper wire. I purhased a heavy duty DRL kit from Automotive Electronics Accessories (Berkley, CA). The kit runs your low beam headlights at reduced power and comes with complete instructions. Headlights are on the second you turn your ignition on. I had a lcoal automotive electrical shop install. They work like a champ and are very reliable. Here's the link incase anyone is interested.

the dtrl on the GT in Canada are also tied to the hand break. break-on, lights off. when the lights are turned on manually the hand break doesn't turn the lights off.

The factory DRL's also run off the high beams.

Principles of Operation

If the SJB is configured for daytime running lamps (DRL), this feature illuminates the low beam headlamps at a reduced intensity when the following conditions exist:

The ignition switch is in the RUN position.
The headlamp switch is in the OFF position.
The PARK brake is not engaged.
For additional information on the low beam headlamps, refer to Section 417-01 .

Inspection and Verification

NOTE: When installing a new smart junction box (SJB), it must be reconfigured for this feature, if originally equipped. Refer to Section 418-01 .

Verify the customer concern by operating the daytime running lamps (DRL) following these steps:
Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
Verify that the PARK brake is not engaged.
If the DRL does not operate, make sure the SJB is configured for DRL before proceeding to the next step.
Verify the parking lamp operation.
Place the headlamp switch in the parking lamps ON position.
If the parking lamps do not operate correctly, refer to Section 417-01 .
Verify the high beam operation.
Place the headlamp switch in the headlamps ON position.
Place the multifunction switch in the HIGH BEAM position.
If the high beams operate correctly and the DRL operation is incorrect, install a new SJB. Refer to Section 419-10 . Test the system for normal operation.
If the high beams do not operate correctly, refer to Section 417-01 for correct diagnosis.

Hi thump_rrr,

I brought a stang back from the states into Canada and need to get the DRL going. The dealer says Ford says they need to copy the computer data from a different stang into mine to get them to work. This makes me a little concerned, especially if the options don't quite match up, ie stereo, traction control, keyless entry codes, etc.

Just wondering if it says anything in the manual about enabling DRL without reflashing. Although, my dealer should know this too, shouldn't they?

I noticed that I can't turn the fog lights on when the car is off. Parklights and headlights fine, but not fogs. I can only turn the fog lights on when the key is in the run position. I find that odd because the fog light switch in integrated with the headlight switch or is it?
