Default Dimmer switch??
I have an 88 lx vert 5.0 and Today I noticed my map light was not working so I checked the fuse # 8 spot (20amp) and it was blown. I put another one in an it blew, so I put a 40 amp and I started to smell the plastic burning so I pulled the fuse. I took the lower steering cover off to see what happened and sure enought it was 2 wires out of 4 that got singed so I'll have to unplug it tomorrow and take the dimmer out and get one from the junk yard simply because I need the harness now. Has this happened to anyone and if so is it the dimmer or a short. I do have the radio out of it now and I did check to make sure none of the wires were touching anything.
What's weird is that when I turn the lights on they work fine so do the instrument lights and the dimmer works when I dim it down.

Didn't you already have a thread for this?
Anyways I had something similar happen in my jeep except I could smell the wires heating well before they blew a fuse. Changed the headlight/dimmer switch and all is well. More than likely this didn't happen overnight as it took time to melt those wires together so now you need to address the wires,be it run new or try and tape the old wires which might be difficult given the area they are in.
