Ok I know there's been a million exhaust threads, but I can't seem to find the answer to this, which sounds would I get out of a stock header divorced dual system with Flowmaster 40's vs. the same setup with an H? I am NOT going to cut or gut my cats also. Only mod is the AM CAI. Basically, is an H better?

First off, you do not have headers. 99-04s have manifolds.

Below 2500RPMs the H-pipe will give a deeper sound. Above 2500RPMs there will be no difference. The gas velocity is too great to make the 90* turn into the crossover.

describe consistent..?
since as you rev, the sound changes...
I'd actually put out the idea of having an X-pipe put up. Usually is a bit louder, and as long as you keep the cats, it shouldn't make it too raspy at all. Gets very raspy without cats though..

Thought on a sixer an X wasn't the best choice? Just what I've heard.. And I wasnt fully paying attention when I wrote the consistent part lol.

hah, I gotcha:)
An X-pipe is just fine on the 6s. Its really personal preference.
X-pipe: a bit louder, sometimes raspier, and can flow better.
H-pipe: usually not as loud, deeper at idle and lower rpms, sounds like divorced at higher rpms..

Would an X cost more for a shop to fab than an H? I'm looking IMO it, although I don't want to take the chance of rasp... I love that deep tone on start and idle. :)

Then dont worry with an X-pipe if you dont want rasp. Itll be there, in the higher RPMs. I honestly dont know about a shop fabbing one...

Ok, think I've settled for an H, I get the low tone plus it acts like a divorced at high rpms, breathes better than stock so it can't do harm.

My local shop charges $50 to do an H-pipe and $150 to do an X-pipe.
Just to give you some numbers.
