just wondering if anyone knew an easier way to get to the starter bolt without using about 5 feet of extensions and universal sockets a hammer and a ratchet.... *sigh* i got it out but it took me quite a few hours to get TO the starter then to get the starter itself is a nightmare in itself... anyone know any good tricks?? :frustrated:

1/4" drive ratchet and a couple extentions has always worked for me. It's still a pain though, no matter what. Most people don't put that bolt back in......lol
LMAO yaaaa i probably wouldnt either, BUT knowing my luck the other two would loosen and destroy starter and flywheel and bellhousin lol the list goes on... but ya i cant believe i didnt think of the 1/4" drive set that would fit right there behind the starter where that heat shield is... thanks man i used 3/8" and ran out like 15 extensions lol to the radiator thru the motor mount... and should the exhaust really have to come off to get to the starter?? or is that just my car lol
I removed exhaust and cut an open end wrench in half in reach up in there. PATIENCE!
i took the starter out of a 98 cobra it was easy once i realized to go through the motor mount to the front of the engine through some of the hoses and such on the passenger side. a couple longer extensions and a few short with 2 swivels really does the trick had it out in about 5 min the second time around taking it out.

lol well i agree lmao my 5.0 mustang was pretty darn easy to do just about anything to it... its a whole new world when ur wrenchin on the 4.6L :( but either way i got the dern thing out, i was just wondering if there was an easy way and i bought a full 1/4 set to try that out hopefully it works a bit better than my 300 extensions and swivels thru the motor mount idea... ill try cuttin a wrench in half too but uhhh how do u get any torque on that wrench if its only like 2 inch long?? lol reall really strong fingers?? :headscratch:
It depends, my hands are small enough that I can squeeze them in there (sort of) and get it from the bottom/side, but the easiest is a socket, 3/8 swivel and a 12-15 inch extension.
Extensions and Swivels

That third start bolt was a humbling experience
