Does a 3k mile Coyote sound different at 9k miles?

Does a 3k mile 5.0 sound different at 9k miles?

I test drove two stock 2014 Mustang GTs. One had 9k mikes and the other 3k miles. The 9k GT sounded great and healthy. All I heard was the growl and rumble of the Coyote. The 3k GT sounded different compared to the 9k. I heard an additional sound on the 3k car that sounded like "ssshhhshhshhsshhh" when I accelerated. The motor in the 3k car also sounded more "flappy" whereas the 9k car sounded more refined with the Coyote growl and rumble.

Initially I was thinking the "ssshhsshh" sound was coming from the transmission. Then I thought maybe it's coming from the intake. Perhaps the previous owner of the 3k car removed the baffles in the sound tube so the intake was more audible?

But what explains why the 3k motor sounded "flappy" compared to the meaty sounding 9k motor? Is it because the 9k GT is more broken in? How did your motor sound at low miles compared to higher miles?

My guess would be that either the exhaust and/or CAI, and/or Tune is not the same in each vehicle. Did everything in both engine compartments look the same? Did both exhaust systems look the same?

There could also be the variable on how the 2 different vehicles were broken in and taken care of.

I would want to speak to the previous owner of both vehicles if possible before purchasing to avoid any unknowns.

Maybe somebody monkeyed with the sound tube. There is a foam plug that can be removed to let more sound into the car.
I would say there is a leak somewhere. Even with the sound plugs removed it does not sound like your explaining. The intake sound just gets louder and boomier with plugs removed. It sounds a little fake imo. Outside of just sound how did the cars feel power wise? I will tell you my car definitely feels stronger/looser at 3000 miles versus at 500 miles.

Does the shssshshshshsshssssshhhhh sound definitely sound like an air-rushing sound, as people have assumed? If so, it's intake, or a vacuum leak. Does the car throttle respond the same between the two cars? If so, then it's not a vacuum leak as the leaking car would have different RPMs and throttle response, IMHO.

Yes. Maybe the previous owner replaced the filter inside the stock intake box. Can that affect the sound?

I didn't feel a difference in power between the 9k mileage and 3k mileage car. I test drove a 800 mile 2014 GT and also didn't notice a difference in power. I noticed the "ssshhh" sound was in the 800 mile car too but not as prominent as the 9k GT. Although I didn't drive the cars hard because I didn't want to upset the salesman. I did short pulls in 2nd gear shifting at low RPMs. They all pulled nicely.

Initially I thought it was the transmission because I'm aware of the MT82's reputation but I think it's more likely the intake. The sound isn't a harsh grind but more of a whooshing "ssshh" that's related to acceleration.

I noticed no difference in throttle response between the cars. It was just the difference in sound that concerned me.

Does anyone remember if their motor sounded different at lower miles?

If they were stock mufflers I would say that they were broken in and sounded different due to mileage. It's been so long since I had my stock mufflers on this car I honestly can't remember at what mileage the tone changed slightly. Never experienced any whooshing sound on mine.
Stock mufflers get throatier with age and miles.

Yes...mine is sounding throatier at 4300 miles than when new. In fact, it's sounding downright wicked....

That Mustang with 3K miles is on a car lot for sale after only 3K miles for a reason. I would avoid it like EBOLA!!!

I noticed my 2012 GT started to sound throatier earlier this summer when I had about 14,000 miles on it. I assumed the mufflers loosened up a bit. Sounds much better now, but I still need to invest in GT500 or Roush axle backs, I think.
