Does the Ford procal void the warranty?

I have a 2012 GT auto and was curious as if they will come out with a procal for the 2012 GT. So far I only see a tun from ford for 2011.

I know it's not as aggessive as the Bama tunes and that but I figure is it safer?

Would Ford still jack you around if something like cylinder #8 imploded like others with tunes have?

Does it void the warranty the Ford tuner?

I understand that the PROCAL is not a problem with Ford as long as you purchase it when you buy your car or within a short period after. PROCAL is not any safer then BAMA or any other tune for that matter. Only Ford will not invalidate your warranty if you buy it at the same time you buy your car.

Not really sure if true or not but that seems to be the consensus. Maybe someone with the tune can elaborate.

I didn't buy one with my car.

So I miight as well just buy a Bama tuner then?

Yes and No.

The ProCal can be purchased and installed and does not Void your warranty, exactly, but, it covers tune related items with it's own warranty, for a period not to exceed 3/36k from the documented miles with your new purchase, and ONLY as long as its installed by a Ford dealer.

For example, lets say you bought a new 2012 GT with 25 miles on it, and 2-months later with 3000 miles on your car, you decide to buy the ProCal, have Ford install it, and register your vehicle with Ford Racing Parts as documented, entitling you to the warranty.

At this point, you would have 34-months/33025-miles of warranty remaining on tune related items, but instead of the tune related parts being covered under the factory powertrain 5/60k warranty, those parts would now become covered under the Ford Racing Parts warranty. The remainder of your car's warranty remains intact and covered under the factory Ford warranty, or extended warranty.

They key is that this must be installed by a Ford dealer to entitle you to the Ford Racing Parts warranty. This is all documented on the Ford Racing Parts website.

I highly suggest you stay away from Procal. You can power and torque in some spots but loose it in others. Also at the high end your A/F ratio gets very dangerous. Here is a dyno Amercian Muscle did comarping stock to procal to Bama,

Here is a link to the forum I found it on

Stock vs. ProCal vs. Bama - 2011 Mustang GT Dyno Results - MustangForums.com

Reading this a long time ago was the reason I steered away from Procal and went SCT instead.

All good info, but the OP wanted to know if the Warranty would be voided by using the ProCal.

Any other tune would also void the factory warranty on tune related parts, except that American Muscle is offering a warranty to protect against #8 cylinder damage on new purchased tunes as long as no other tune has been run on the car, and as long as you don't alter the tune they provide.

This is incorrect. Ford reserves the right to void your entire powertrain warranty for changing the factory calibration to an aftermarket one. How the car is shipped from the factory is what the warranty covers. Any changes to the vehicle CAN void your warranty.

What people seem to confuse (not you specifically) is Ford Motor Company and Ford Racing Performance Parts. FRPP is a subsidiary of Ford, but they are not Ford and this is an important distinction. This means that FRPP is an aftermarket seller and entitles Ford to void your warranty if you should change parts from FMC to those of FRPP.

Please read the warranty page carefully:
Ford Racing Performance Parts - [Warranty]

Specifically you're looking at this section:

2) FR1 & FR3 Power Packs for the 2005 - 2010 Mustangs and Shelby GT500

The warranty will cover parts and labor to replace defective components on Ford Dealer installed parts only.

  • A 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty is applicable if installed at the time of new vehicle delivery
  • A 12 month / 12,000 mile warranty is in effect if installed after the date of vehicle delivery but prior to expiration of 3 years / 36,000 mile vehicle warranty
From their more in depth warranty page:

"This Limited Warranty replaces the existing
manufacturer's New Vehicle Limited Warranty for engine, driveline and suspension parts when
a concern is triggered by a warranted Ford Racing part. All engine, driveline and suspension
warranty issues not related to installation of Ford racing parts remain subject to existing
manufacturer's New Vehicle Limited Warranty."

This applies to MY2011 and later vehicles as well, they just haven't updated their webpage to reflect that.

What this means in practice is that if you have an experienced Ford Racing dealer, and something breaks, he should be able to get it covered under warranty by the responsible party.

The problem occurs if neither party accepts responsibility. This sometimes happens with BMW and Dinan, but that's not quite as close a relationship.

And, if you install the tune, then you can't buy the Ford extended warranty.

I don't know what happens if you buy the warranty before buying the tune.

It seems Ford racing has changed their warranty on the Ford Racing tune.
I don't see anywhere about the 1/12 warranty like it used to say.
It's all 3/36. A very fair warranty IMO. It also states that the Ford Racing warranty will take over the factory warranty if a concern is decidedly caused by the tune and nothing about voiding the factory warranty.
The Ford racing tune is starting to look pretty good to me.:shiny:
I just ordered mine :bounce2:

Hey, about time! Ha!

That's great, Ben. Sure you'll be pleased.

I noticed and mentioned the lack of 1/12 a few weeks ago when discussing the Pro Cal on another thread, but didn't think about hollaring at you via a PM. Glad you noticed on your own.
Yes I'm very excited! The stock tune seems to be missing something. My V6 Rav4 is more responsive and actually pulls harder down low.:shigrin
I'll post a review after I get the Pro Cal installed. :bigthumbsup
