Last weekend I went to the drag strip on Friday and Sunday. Friday was the first time I've ever been on a drag strip. Was afraid of putting my car into the wall so kept the TC on sport mode. My times were terrible and only on my last run could I break into the 13s at 13.9. I went back on Sunday and they said never go on a Friday night since the track isn't prep'd.:nono: Well, it was very well prep'd on Sunday and I just went with TC completely off. I was able to do substantially better and got down to 13.1 @ 111mph.:shiny: My 60' time isn't very good and I think I should get down another 3 or 4 tenths there. I'm on street tires. I ordered and received Steeda LCA and relocation brackets. Now I'm thinking of what I should do for tires. I've read a lot of threads and they're all over the place. I would like to get down into the mid to low 12s. Oh, also I'm running the performance Bama tune right now. I'll try the race tune once the LCAs are on. I'm looking for input on tires and anything else reasonable to get me down... or is that unrealistic at all without more substantial changes? ... plus, I know I definitely need more practice.. that's probably good for 2 tenths or so I guess.

Thanks for the help and feedback! :bigthumbsup

Get your 60' down and you will be right where you want. What gear do you have in your car

As for the tires. I have had Nittos on my 03 cobra and they didn't hook well. I put Micky Thompsons on it and hey would hold no matter how hard you launched. This was about 5 years ago, so I don't know how the latest version of each brand perform now

I am getting about 12.7s here in TX. When I checked my DA it was around 2000ft, and the correction said 12.5s. It's just a tool that helps you compare apples to apples, with regards to weather changes.

Check out;

I find keeping an eye on similar cars the same night helps to show where you are... My times so far aren't great but I've been roastin' camaros and challengers everytime I go out...

You'll have trouble getting under a 2.0s 60ft time with street tires. Your car is definately capable of 12.5s... you just have to get everything right on one pass. With my set up I am hoping to get closer to 12s. I am running with 1/4 tank of gas, rear seats and spare gone and a few other things that I hope help me out.

3.73 gears. Almost anyone I was up against I seem to gain a lot on or make some significant distance between on the second 1/8th compared to them. This could be due to the Boss Manifold and tune. I was pulling each gear either almost to or into the red. The car never seems to hit a point where it's not pulling so I have to watch the tach.

I was looking at the Nitto NT555R tires since the seem recommended for occasional weekend drag. I would want to ride them to and back from the track, which is about 40 mins away. Otherwise I'll be on my standard Pirelli's the rest of the week. But now it sounds liKe I should focus more on the M/Ts. I'll give them a call Monday and see what they recommend. The ET Street Radial seems interesting.

Also, I seem to be at the red line in 4th as I go through the traps. I don't want to hesitate for a shift into 5th. Does this sound right for 111MPH?

Thanks! This is a pretty interesting calculator. It also has an iPhone and Android version, which is nice for the day at the track.

LMC13,

Your times are not bad considering your 60ft! If you cut that down to a 1.5-1.7 you're easily headed deep into the 12's with your current mods. The easiest way would be to get a set of Lower Control Arms and a Sticky Tire! Your definitely making up some serious ground by the 8th Mile so your definitely in good shape! I have a few questions, What we're you launching at? What tune are you running? Did you change the tire pressure? How was the weather?

Definitely keep up the great driving and let me know if you ever have any questions!

Nitto 555Rs are really street tires that provide marginally better traction at the track. If you want a DR on a budget, look into the NT05Rs, and if you're up for the cash get some 15" wheels and MTs.

I was launching at 2K RPMs for the best run. Anything more and I seem to be losing too much traction. I was running the Bama 93 Performance tune. I'm going to switch to the 93 Race tune next time. I had about 25psi in the rear and about 38psi in the fronts for the tires. Weather was sunny and around 70F. With the DA calculator it adjusts to 13 even @ 112.79.

I did order some Steeda billet LCAs and relocation brackets. Sorry Dan, not through AM this time. Once I figure out how much the LCAs help on the street tires then I'll figure out how much I want to spend on tires.

The NT05Rs do look very reasonable. Do you think they're ok to drive 40mins to/from the strip? I'd rather not be changing tires at there. My GT/CS has 245/45ZR19s on them now. What size tire/wheel would you recommend? I see quite a few with 15" on the rear. Seems akward, but I guess it works? Sorry for the ignorance if this is common knowledge!

In an auto 2.2 60s is normal, lower control arms do nothing on these cars.

I've got a 2012 gt auto with a vortech and a 2007 gt auto with a vortech 2007 makes 420hp and the 2012 makes 530hp both at the tire, both cars have mickey thompson et drag radials, the 2012 has 325/50-15s and the 2007 has 275/60-15 both 60s are around 2.2 currently the only time I ever got the 60 down to a 2.0 was on the 2012 but with 3.73 gears however I had to remove the 3.73 gears because the car got zero tradition even on the 325/50-15s however with the 3.15 gears the car hook up at a non prep midnight mayhem event. the 2012 has ran a best time of 12.1 at 119 and the 2007 has ran a best time of 12.5 at 111 however these numbers are when it's cooler out and the D.A is below 2500 however this time of year the D.A is around 4500 feet which makes our cars run a full second slower than anywhere else. so right now the 2007 runs 13.1s and the 2012 runs 12.4s. I have ran 13.1s and my wife has ran 13.1s the 2012 bone stock the oem pzero nero tires kick ass in an auto with stock power just make sure you turn traction control and advance track completely off. I didn't see if your car was an auto or a manual however I'll some its an auto. Great numbers though.

You need to work on your launch if you want to keep the stock tires, I have gone 2.0 and I have seen others go 1.8-1.9s I'm going to buy some MT drag radials , if you get into the 1.7s 60 ft you should run low 12s

Get a set of the Nitto NT05R's and you won't be sorry. I have had them now for 3 months and they are great on the street and a week ago I went to the track and ran a 12.89.

Your car is capable of 60-foot times in the 1.6Xs with 275/60-15 M/T ET Street Radial Pros and the Brand S control arms and brackets you ordered. It takes finesse to make the DRs hook on a stick car, but when they hook, they hook! If you run a 1.6X 60-foot time with all else the same, it'll drop you into the 11.90s.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I can help point you in the right direction.
