The rear gears will take the power, it's the axles that are the weak link. It's recommended that you go to 32 spline axles for anything over 400 horsepower.

I'm not over 400hp and I managed to spread the stock diff as well as an Auburn Pro after 4 passes. I now have a Detroit Tru trac which is awesome along with some 31 spline Moser axles. I bought the carrier from Drivetrain specialists and the axles from Moser. I've beaten on this setup and am very confident it'll hold up. For me, the only other upgrade would be going to a 9". I run 28" ET Drag slicks with 4.56 gears. It hooks dead nuts. My car has 21,000 miles on it, driven daily, and raced atleast twice a week. Some of these performance shops that still have "stock" carriers and other parts either 1. Only race it... less wear 2. Don't have stock parts.

I think 2HORSEOWNER meant 31 spline axles. There is no such thing as 32 spline. You might be able to get away with stock axles if you have street tires but if you have something sticky get it upgraded.

I brought this same Q up with the 'pros' the other day... what is said above seem to be the consensus... Also beware for the tranny if you race or drive with rough shifts... There are a feew 'weak' links, and with weak I talk about plus 450 on the wheels or 4:10's or higher with stickies, etc...

After I get my bottom end done I'll look into the rest all the way back, tranny (I have the clutch) and axles all the way to the wheels before I pulley the SC and start racing her for real...

Anybody found a FORGED 6-speed yet?

Any thoughts on the carbon fiber driveshafts?

What axles? New housing? Full Kit? ...for the rear end?

The lighter Jeep vehicles love the Ford 8.8 for off-road use. The weakest thing I've always heard about the axles is the carrier is weak and the tubes can rotate on the center section. Many companies make chro-mo axles for the 8.8. I usually buy my axles from Alloy USA and just can not beat their return policy. Send the broke one to them, they send you a new one.

Hi again, I went down there today and talked to them... they have not yet installed the prototype converter etc. but will here this or next week. It is a local cpy that makes them and if/when all is worked out and they know the mod works it will be for sale at/from MD... I'll try to remember to post the resoults when it goes on and has been driven/dragged...
