Droning noise?

1221 Views 8 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Falcon_744
At exactly 51 mph, while accelerating(only accelerating), I hear some kinda rubbing/droning noise(pretty low tone) for about a half a second. Always at 51 mph. Any ideas on what thsis could be? I can't tell if it's coming from the engine or the exhaust.

It could be a vibration coming from an exhaust clamp or body panel...

Since it only occurs at a particular speed or RPM, which produces that sound wave decible, my guess would be a vibrating part...

Well I took my pops for a ride and he says there is def something going wrong. It's a rubbing sound while accelerating on multiple gears at different speeds now. I'm going to have to give the shop a call tomorrow :sosad:
I have a problem with my ebrake (actually the ebake button) handle vibrating under acceleration, but I have an aftermarket exhaust (very loud) and new Tri-Ax shifter to blame. It didn't do it befor the mods.

Thanks for all the usefull information. Just because I want a new exhaust and new shifter doen't mean I want a loud vibration from my ebrake handle. I am adding headers, xpipe, FRPP lowering kit and soon a S/C does this mean the whole car is going to vibrate apart???

Dear Falcon 774:

Everything will probably be just fine...

But searching for a vibration can be annoying...

I had an exhaust vibration and found that something inside my right muffler was rattling when the muffler got hot...

Had to return the muffler to the manufacturer for a replacement...

Got the replacement muffler, installed it, vibration rattle is GONE!!!

Go figure? Dave

Thanks for the reply...I was in a bad mood.

I just had my Tri-Ax replaced with a Hurst pro comp (with the chrome shaft and white ball) and 90% of the ebrake rattle went away. I am convinced that it is because of the re-use of the plastic bushings on the shift linkage instead of the brass used on the Steeda. Anyway I liked the Steeda but I think I like the hurst better, same short throw (maybe shorter) but it less clunky and fells like a more positive engaugment ( I know it is just feel). The only thing I do not totally like is the fact that it is a much taller (about 1 1/2 inches) then the Steeda. Maybe someday they will sell a shorter chrome shaft extension. all in all I have to say I am much happier with the hurst then the Steeda and it looks cool too...
