Hey guys, so I'm new to this forum and wanted to introduce myself and my car. My name is Dan and I own a 1998 Ford Mustang Cobra. I have been looking through the treads and can see that you guys can be a lot of help.

Mods: BBK longtube headers, BBK X-mid Pipes, Flowmaster Catback exhaust, Steeda Underdrive pulleys, Ford Racing Billet Steel Flywheel, Zoom stage 3 clutch, Aluminuim Quadrant, Firewall adjuster, MGW short shifter, and 4.10 Ford Racing gears.

Okay well guys I have a big problem, I blew my transmission over the weekend. I know I have to drop the headers to remove the transmission, but I'm not sure if I have to remove both headers or just the passenger one? I was also wondering if a t45 from a GT will fit my Cobra? I know it's the same transmission, but will it bolt right on?

I found a fairly cheap one for $300 in my area. I know this headers are a big pain to remove, I don't really want to drop the K-member, so I was wondering if I remove the motor mounts and jack up the motor to remove them? Sorry guys for so many questions.

If any of you guys can help and kind of give me a walk through on the easiest way to remove the transmission. I will really appreciate it, as I want to get started on Friday.

Thank you in advance to all of you guys

-Dan

It would be handy to mention the model year of the donor T45.

Also, are you expecting a "plug and play" transmission install?

Why?

Because 98 and older Mustangs use a VSS transmission speed sensor. 99+ Mustangs uses an OSS speed sensor. The outputs of the two sensors are NOT compatible with each other. Further, the sensor type needs to match the wiring harness AND the PCM.

So if the T45 came from a 99+ GT, it will have an OSS sensor. The transmission itself will bolt up to the motor, but the speed sensor will be wrong.

The t45 is actually coming off a 2000 mustang gt. I went to the link provided by you, so will I need to swap the tail shaft? I thought the 98 cobra came with the tresmec, not the borg warner? Is it still a different speedo regardless?

Sounds like you need to see this for yourself.

Compare the transmission wiring diagrams from the 98 MY and 00 MY. Then you will know for sure.

If you are interested in getting a full copy of the Ford Service DVD including wiring diagrams covering the 96-02 model year, I maybe able to help. PM if interested.
