Hi has anyone swapped or had experience in installing a newer efi 302 into a first gen Mustang? I own a 1995 F-150 that has a efi 302 and auto overdrive trans. I would like to swap that engine into my 66 Mustang. Any info. would be appreciated, thanks!

Well what are you lookin for wild? Trying to get that mustang of yours on the road or will it be just a toy you try to get as fast as you can? Either way, the efi 302 or rebuilding your 289 will be fun in the end. If you went with a 302 that had efi you will have to install some sort of PCM to control it or are will you doing TBI? I personally would stay with the carb because it is easier to mess with. Either way, good luck on this. Keep us informed will yah.

A good planned build will go along way. Being you have a running car I would figure out which way you want to go with the build and then acquire all the parts. Of course there is always the little parts people forget when doing a motor swap write up so just keep provisions in the budget for those.

totally agree Moses about making a final decision and sticking with it plan but as for right now I'm in that big ol toy box frame of mind in looking at all the options of engine/trans/suspension and body style.
I even considered this dream plan!

Go for it man, I use this same setup from Total Cost Involved but i dont get polished stuff cause it looks bad if you dont clean it rigorously.
Its a lot of cutting to remove the towers and strut rod housings but it performs like you will not believe!. It really is simple to install and all of the refernce points are from the factory holes which used to mount the steering box and idler arm.
I also use their rear torque arm suspension for the rear which is a 3 link with panhard bar and of course coilovers and subframe connectors.

yes sir I guess in a sense you are correct. To explain, when I did my 72 Mach1 I put new fuel lines new tank new carb new ram air setup new coil springs new ps pump new rebuilt steering box new everything.... and slowly took it all out and re did the work. So in essense I wasted a lot of work and money. I was forced to do some repairs because the restoration parts are CRAP and is what really started the ball rolling for me
That being said if you compare restoring a disc brake power steering car with better brakes or converting to disc brakes and everything else being equal (fixing front end, a leaking sloppy power steering, worn tie rods ball joints, sagging springs and installing a bigger than 5/8" sway bar) its really not the leap one may think... or at least to me anyway.

Silver, sounds like a major project but all in all, in my opinion, it would make for a better ride. I think once I start it will be a complete make over.
I've saved some money but still need quite abit more. Any tips on how to get more money faster, lol!
I think I better wait till I get a lump sum and then start ordering parts. That way the project will take shape faster.
I would really like some power. I'm not much one for turbos or power adders except maybe a shot of NOS.
I'm not going ahead with the efi 302 so I'm thinking of 3 options now. All carbureted, a stroked 302 to 363ci, a 351 stroked to the max. where ever that leads me, or an all out Boss 9 five hundred and what ever cubic inches.
Now question on the 351 based engine. How much of a squeeze is it to get it to fit between the stock shock towers?

its not tight but not as "roomy" as a 302 as the deck height is taller so everything gets wider up top. A stroked 351W to 393-408 oe even a crate 427 boss block will yeild upwards of 500 hp with ease and can still be injected later with an MSD?FAST type kit.
Smart move to save your money and it wont take long and dont be afraid to do it, the results are nothing short of spectacular and Im serious, the way the kit is designed you cant really mess up installing it. They have a really good step by step manual and lots of pictures to fall back on too...Im a visual guy.
