Electrical Problem wires burning car can not be run.

3134 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  soupnutz
Long story short my car stalled while I was driving her and I pulled over looked under the hood and smoke was coming from a set of wires. I tried to uncover wires and tape and find a short but couldn't find any.

The wires look burnt around a harness (black rectangle) passenger side near firewall.

Here's a pic.

Does anyone know what it could be? and does anyone have the part number for this harness?

Looks like a quick trip to a junkyard will solve your problems. I wouldn't mess with wiring harnesses. The fact that it did that means there is major problems in it somewhere, and that it burned you are lucky the car didn't go with it- thats what happened to a crown vic I had- go find an entire engine harness, uncouple it from the firewall and rewire.

What happened to your crown Vic?
A switched power met a harness ground, shorted and lit the power on fire the length of the harness. By doing so it lit the other wires on fire and actually ruined the car.

my harness went bad once. I removed and stripped the whole thing down to the wire, inspected and repaired the bad wiring then put on new corrugated tubing and wrapped everything in elctrical tape, then i had to do it again when I rewired the harness for COP's.
That never never never never works out- there is a reason they fry wither it be built up resistance or a bad fuse or whatever- Thats why when I got the 4v stuffed in the stang, when it came to extending some of the wires everything got soldered and sealed. In this case, and your case, just replace the entire thing. In your case, replace the fuses as well- there is way more going on there.:bigthumbsup

Yeah, when you fix it you have to fix it right, all of mine were soldered with 2 layers of heat shrink tubing and continuity checks afterwards.
