engine rebuild or not, 2001 Mustang V6

8156 Views 13 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  232-K7
I hav e a 01 and have put on a FIPK Cold air, Hedman Headders, Dual Flowmaster 40's, Diablo tuner, and 3.73 gears with t-lock I am looking to go for a stage 2 from super six and then go FI after, currently I have about 108,000 Miles on the car but mostly all highway miles with no stress or any major wear on the engine so my question is if I go with super six and FI should i get a rebuild kit for the car or since most of the miles are high should i be fine.

What type of forced induction are you going with anyway?
well since when i bought the car it came with a cobra hood i was thinking of going with the super six m112 adapter and get the blower together it will cost me about 1300.
it all depends on how much power you want to have and how long b4 you are forced to rebuild! lol I was just gonna slap on a sc on my car but the better half told me to just rebuild then add power. Talk to Tom [email protected] supersix. He is a great guy and stands by his work. Im glad i had him do my engine

Yes it will cost 1300 if you can find a blower for that cheap. Of course then you'll spend another 1,700 or so on additional parts and then you'll need a tune. Also, the SSM intake doesn't allow the m112 to sit below the stock hood, so you will need a cowl hood 3.5" or taller, or run a 3" cowl hood and add a GT hoodscoop over the exposed blower pulley, or just cut your current hood and let the m112 poke though.

You can rebuild it to stock, but in your situation you can rebuild your V6 into something bigger and better...

Stroker Kits
P&P Heads and Intake
Cam

These three are highly common in the V6 engine modifications, did you want to put a supercharger? turbo? or nitrous? Because with any of the power-adders you'll have to figure out what modifications you'll need to do that's appropriate for your application.

no i know that most everyone wants to get those but i dont really want to. i want to make it as fast as possible without nos, supercharger, or turbo. how much would it cost really to rebuild the engine or have someone do it, im assuming alot. would it just be cheaper to buy a new car. beacuse i really like my stang and want to keep it for a while but it just has alot of miles on it

Drive it like you stole it...... When it becomes time for a rebuild, then figure out your finances and build a motor around that. Just because you have 130k on it, doesn't mean it's ready to die. Heck, I've got about 113k on the '01 which has been literally pounded at the track every chance I got for the last 2+ years.....

I have 142K on my '01, and I'm just barely getting started...

WOOT! lol

But if you don't want to get serious power added, just go with engine mods...you'll be happy with that. With some good engine work, I think you'll be spending about...$3000-$5000 depending what you want and who you pay for labor...

do you mean cut a hole into a stock V6 hood and cover the blower with a GT hoodscoop? can that be done? if so that'd be awesome!
i've thought about that idea for a while, but didnt know if it would work

That could be done unless you want a hole in the middle of your hood?

What's the depth on a 99-04 GT hood scoop? Look it up...

If it were up to me, I'd either go with a 3" Cowl hood or self-fabricate a hood scoop of my own for that hole on the V6 hood.

:bigthumbsupOr I can just let the m112 stick out of the hood, so all that open air will cool the power-adder and give me more longer horsepower added! :hihi: hahahahahaha! Oh man, GT-R Mustang.

The M112 poking out of the hood is not a good idea. Rain and such will get into your motor which is not a good thing. Derek just had a small hole for his pulley sticking out, and he said it was a PITA in the rain........

A "Cobra R" hood would maybe hide it.......

if the GT hoodscoop could cover the blower, you could just remove the honeycomb grill:scratchchin
i dont think the airflow would make much of a difference, but it'd be sickkk to see a blower pulley sitting under that faker-shaker.
itd kind of ruin the sleeper effect, tho....:shigrin
