I couldn't have put that better myself. I feel the same way and I know I'm keeping mine forever but what happens when the engine dies? My dads first car was a 69 that was just average for the day and he still has it.. He swapped out the engine when the first one died because he couldn't part with the car. So instead of buying a new one he put in a new bigger engine and redid the drivetrain and gears and etc. (much easier in those days) and has been driving that for 16 years. He wouldn't trade anything for it. So when my car dies I'm keeping my first car and doing a new engine. This isn't a sob story or anything it's just plain facts.
so wouldnt it be cheaper to redo the whole engine bay and drivetrain and etc. and keep my first car and the retro look and put 20 grand in it instead of buying a 30 grand gt?

Ive talked to people who have switched when their v6 pony died. But they would not have bought another one so they stayed with the body they wanted. And it worked.

So when the engine drops out I'll be upgrading it, but it'll still be the same mustang I always wanted. The engine doesn't matter to me because I didn't have the money at all for more than a v6 at first but it's driving the beast I love. My dads 69 is his weekend warrior and all my uncles drive mustangs. And they would not let me get rid of it so either way I have no choice when it dies finally lol. :grinroll:
Believe me nobody loves there mustang more than I do, well ok a-lot of others do also:bigthumbsup Im with you on the 05-09 body style, it's the best looking one and I too thought of doing a engine swap when I paid mine off but there's just too much involved in the swap.
Besides the motor you'd need to redo the suspension, brakes, wiring, computer, driveshaft, rearend, rebuild the tranny and more. The cost would be crazy. But if you have the $$$ then go for it.
I wish I'd have just bought a Grabber Orange GT back in 07 and been done with it but I did'nt. The 4.0 is a good reliable motor and can be Beefed up pretty good. If you redid the 4.0 with all forged internals, new heads and a cam with a SC you'd be a happy camper and not have to change much at all for the redo.
That's what Im condsidering after mines paid off next July. Then I'd have a "Sleeper 4.0" and still have my 07 and be proud of her and what's under the hood.
Your Dad's 69 is a totally different animal when it comes to an engine swap, back then it was'nt a chore to swap engines like it is today when you want to go from a V6 to a V8 in a car that is'nt set up for it. The 69 could be swapped out with little work, they did'nt have Computers that ran everything.
