I recently purchased the Escort Passport 9500ix. Here are my thoughts on the overall product.

I like how you can mark specific locations as speed traps. This would be useful if CA used speed cameras and had red light cameras but they don't (at least in my area). How ever you can mark various locations that Police like to hang out for handing out speeding tickets.

The radar detector can be updated so the software will never go out of date assuming that the radar detector can support the new software updates.

The down side is that I do not believe it will be useful against LIDAR. I've read mixed things about LIDAR. Some say it can pick it up others claim it will only pick up the LIDAR once the officer has your speed. That is where Escorts Laser Shifter comes into play. How ever those are not legal in all states.

I felt a little mislead as I thought this radar detector came with Escort Live which uses GPS to give you locations of Police. But that is an additional $99 a year.

Overall I'm happy with the product so far. It should reduce the likelihood that I'll receive another speeding ticket but it will not eliminate it entirely.

If you do purchase a radar detector and/or laser shifter/scrambler keep in mind these products will not prevent all tickets. If you're doing 15+ MPH over the limit the Officer is going to know your speeding. They simply help lower the likelihood you'll get one if used properly.

Just get the app "Waze" for your phone. A lot cheaper and it works!
Members make reports that show up on your phones Navagation screen. Police locations being one of them. I was skeptical at first but it works. Even has a very accurate digital GPS Speedometer. Check it out.

I too have that Passport. I found that only Laser and Ka bands are used by the cops. If you get caught on laser, you're already busted, so having that doesnt do a whole lot. K bands are always going off for the roadside MPH displays.

Having said that, I will try WAZE also...no harm in a backup!

There's nothing deficient in the laser detection performance of the 9500ix compared to any other laser detector. It's the narrow nature of the beam that means unless it's pointed right at you, you're unlikely to detect it. Radar throws a lot wider beam and throws it farther so early detection is possible before you are targeted or often before the LEO can even see you.

Having said that, I've twice received a laser alert from a hand-held laser being operated by a stationary LEO (can't use laser when moving). The first time the cop pulled over the guy behind me, the second time, I was sure I was toast but when the cop got back in his car and gave chase, he passed right by me and pulled over the guy in front of me. In both cases I was riding my motorcycle though.

I have a friend that is law enforcement and he was telling me that he has a LIDAR gun that will function while moving. Ironically I've yet to witness this, though I do remember getting a ticket from a CHP who was in motion and I'm nearly certain he wrote on the ticket that it was LIDAR.

If you're not in CA you can purchase a 3 diod laser scrambler. I have watched videos of these in use and they are effective. How ever you only have a few seconds to slow down before the LIDAR gun gets a read.

My Radar detector has paid for it's at least twice. They frequently us Ka band. It started giving me a slight Ka band reading then it started getting stronger he was quite a ways behind me too. It took him a while to catch up. By the time he was through the traffic behind me I was doing the speed limit. he then pulled over a Black F-150.

Nothing is 100% full proof at preventing tickets. How ever if you use WAZE, a quality radar detector and a quality 3 diod laser scrambler you will greatly reduce the risk of getting a speeding ticket. At the very least you will reduce the frequency of receiving them. It's also important to note that WAZE is only effective when other WAZER's are on the road. So it has to be high traffic roads or big cities and even still it is only effective if someone else pins the officer location before you.
