In the early 60's I owned a '64 Dodge 426 SS Sedan and later a '63 Vette and I had a similiar exhaust cut out on both. They were pretty popular back then. The only problem was they were leaky. Frankly, I did not even know they were still being offered for sale. But to answer your question - they do work if all you want is an inexpensive way to dump your exhaust and open them up.

You think they would be a good mod for the track.

hey man.
cutouts are great to have. they free up your exhaust entirely.
im not sure about how the 05's work with back pressure and what not, but if brackpressure plays no part, then cutouts would be awesome.

really, they are old school. the thing are best for is being loud and annoying. just straight header baby.

my bro has them on his 77 trans am, 400 cid big block (6.6 liter).
when he uncorks that monster, you cant even hear yourself think. you get a headache too.

if noise ordinance is in effect in your area, i would not recomend them
check your emissions laws as well, they ARE illegal in PA. (doesnt stop most of us)

I do't think I would use the on the street, the electric one looks like it would be a nice addition, hit a switch and BAM! Beast comes to life. If installed they would be mostly for track :winks ( or at a stop light next to a ricer, LOL )
Any other comments would be appreciated ( experience would be nice ).

There is a company that makes an H-pipe that has the cutouts on it. However, the cool thing about their's is that it is electric; so you flip a switch and the cutouts close or open. Too crazy for me though. My car is already so loud that I can't hear my radio.

also have to consider the s197's computer. as soon as you go WOT w/ the cut-out's open you'll probably go into limp mode...at the very least a CEL. idk, i guess anyone of us could pull the mid pipe to test it

ANYONE WILLING TO DO A TEST , TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM ?

THIS IS HOW IT SOUNDS ON A LS1 CAMARO LISTEN

ONE MANUFACTURER IS QTEC

Sounds too risky for me!! I would hate to take it to a tuner or dealer and explain why it went into limp mode.
