Hi all, my exhaust sounds extremely different now (Flowmaster Outlaw catback)!! It sounds raspier and uglier than before. The cracking/popping sound after letting of the throttle is completely gone, it just sounds like a drone through the rpm. It was a night and day change, one day it was perfect like always and the next day this all happened.

Ive had my exhaust for barely 9,300 miles and my car has 19,500 miles.

What could be the reason behind that?

What other mods do you have? The exhaust tone and cackling can and will change between certain tunes. Also maybe you may want to get under the car and check the tightness of all clamps as they will rattle loose occasionally.

I have no other mods and no tune. Nothing was changed to the car.
Since you mentioned, how can a tune change the exhaust sound?
I did go under the car and checked the clamps they were tight but I dont know if they are tight enough or not. I checked the installation guide and it doesnt state how tight (ft-p/nm) the bolts have to be.

They're not chambered they're a straight through design. I guess that cat back set up came with an X pipe?
What sound were you looking for?

Yes it does come with the x-pipe. I do know that x-pipe sounds raspier compared to an h-pipe but thats not the problem. It sounds raspier than when I first installed it. (Problem one)

The cracking/popping/burbling/mini backfire sound/thunder sound or however you prefer to call it upon letting of the throttle is gone. Thats my main issue here; I bought the Flowmaster Outlaws for that sound which is now gone. It just sounds like a drone going down the rpm. (Problem two)

To make it easier for you here is a video I found on youtube of how my exhaust used to sound. You can also hear a cracking/popping sound once he lets of the throttle which I dont have anymore.

I'm gonna say your previous muffler, which I assume was chambered, gave you that deceleration rumble your missing now.
Kinda like farting without any cheeks. Just a whoosh of wind. Haha.

P.S. I re-read your opening post. Sorry, my comprehension was off. Didn't realize you had that exhaust set up for almost 10k miles and now you say the deceleration gurgling is gone. Idk....did you change gas stations? Maybe clean the throttle body. The plate might be hanging up a little?

No problem. Hahaha if thats how you see it then yes exaclty.

I didnt change the gas station or the gas octane.
I recently took my car for service, I thought it might help but the difference was a minimum before and after the service.
What plate?

Some options since superman is not available with his x-ray vision. Take the mufflers off and shake them. Physically look inside the muffler, short camera scope, or physically drill a 3/32" diameter hole in the bottom rear of the muffler. But before doing so, it is best to contact the manufacturer and ask for their advice. Now possibly those mufflers already had drain holes and for some reason they got clogged up.

Check for the drain holes, google online for water in your type of mufflers, and contact the manufacturer.

I did look inside and found something that looked odd. I posted some pics but I dont know how well you can see it. Basically down the muffler where it curves I saw something might be blocking or just there for some reason. It looked like some sort of mesh (or maybe it seemed mesh like from the light ) but I am sure there is something in both mufflers. Should I try poking it and see what happens?

Something has changed to change the sound. Any kids in your neighborhood that may have put a golf ball in there or something?

My parking is indoor with only access to the residents. And so is my office. Since you mentioned that, I am known in the building as the loud car owner so I wont be surprised if any of the neighbors has done something especially the ones im on bad pages with. I can try and check if any of the cameras has coverage of my car and try to see if anyone has done something. Worst case scenario if there was something inside I'd just have to remove the muffler and shake it to drop whatever is inside?

Wonder if it's possible that Ford service did an ECU/tune update while it was in for service? I've heard of them doing that on a whim as cars come in for service.

If they're just bolted on, I'd be doin that today. I'd also be in contact with Flowmaster if some of that mesh came loose and clogged them.
