I'm thinking of getting my hands on an 8.8 axle out of a 1995+ explorer. It will have the disk brakes so half the disk brake swap is complete, 5 lugs
(again half the conversion is then done), and it will have the LSD (which i would upgrade to a detroit) and 4.11's. All I will have to do is weld on the spring perches and 4-link mounts.

I was wondering if anyone has done this and if so any tips? Also I haven't even checked yet but are the alxes the same width?

Thanks

I believe the axles are different length because I also believe the center section is offset. That would angle the driveshaft to one side, and put it that much closer to the driveshaft tunnel on that side.

If you're interested in having 5-lug disk brakes, you would be better off finding an axle from a '94-98 Mustang GT. It would be a bolt-in swap.
