I now have developed some queertrons in my '66 coupe's lights. When I step on the brakes, the front parking lights also illuminate. Weird. When I turn the headlights on, the parking lights go out. Are they supposed to remain on? Also, when I use my turn signals (either left or right), both sides flash. My emergency flasher switch does nothing. No changes were made to the vehicle. Any guesses besides a grounded wire somewhere? I'm currently tracing wires looking for previous repairs and bare wires.

Hello. :) The parking lights are supposed to go off when the headlights come, so, that is doing what it's supposed to do. As far as the other weirdness goes, do the dash turn indicators work, and, if yes, do they come on like the front parking lights when you step on the brakes? If they do, then someone has figured out a way to route the turn signals through the emergency flasher, which would also account for the emergency flashers not working. :)

I would firstly check all the grounding points you can find.
Earth straps, battery connection, regulator points even take the lighting fuses out and clean the terminals or spin them around in their sockets a few times.

Hi again. :) With the dash indicators also flashing, what you have is six different sockets that are powered by six different wires all activating whenever you activate any of them. A different way to think about this would be to ask yourself 'If I wanted my car to do that, how would I go about making that happen?'. Every way that I could come up with involved the emergency flasher switch, one way or another. I think that I would start by unplugging the turn signal switch, then unplug that other six pin connector that looks just like the 6 pin turn single switch connector, and then plug the one from the turn signal switch into other one that's connected to the main underdash harness, bypassing the emergency flasher system entirely, and see what that accomplished. :)

Thanks a bunch for the insight, Veronica. Makes sense to me. I looked at the taillight harness last night. It looked fine to me. I also have a clicking noise in the steering column when I turn the wheel to the right, so I tore into that. I ordered a signal cancelling cam and harness to replace the original one. But once I got in there, it turned out to be a minor issue with the aftermarket wheel install. So I still have the issue to deal with, along with a busted up horn button. I believe my emergency flasher switch in the glove box is not correctly mounted, so I will be all over that this evening after work. I didn't start there because it's never worked since I've owned the car (8 months). I'll post updates as I discover/eliminate causes. Thanks again!

Well don't I feel stoopid. I opened the glove box and the e-flasher switch was in the O-N position. Like I stated before, it never has worked, so I never gave it a thought. I turned it to the O-F-F position, got my keys and tried the turn signals. Everything is back to normal. facepalm2.gif Jeez! So now the only issue I have is to resolve the flashers not working with the key off. Thanks for the help.

Hi again. :) That sort of thing happens to all of us occasionally. I would focus more on how happy I was that the fix was not expensive and time consuming. :) The turn signals are not supposed to work with the key off. If the flashers that you're talking about are the emergency flashers, that should prove to be a fairly simple fix, also. It would just about have to be either the fuse is blown, the flasher is disconnected, or a problem with the wire that goes from the fuse box to the flasher, since there isn't anything wrong with the switch or any of the wiring downstream from the switch. :)

Thanks again. I checked all those items, but will recheck them again this weekend during normal car time putzing. Drove it to work today. First time more than 5 miles away from the house! I still have front brake lights, but I don't care about that today.
