Fat Tires ....help..

2231 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  jacknh
So I am looking to finally change my rear wheels. I have stock GT bullit rims right now...I want to get either 17x10s or 18x10s with a tall and wide tire. I do not want 45s...I was thinking either 260/55s or 255/60s sort of the look of my 1969. Anyone have their car with fat n wide tires in the rear I would really like to see what it looks like before I buy them!! OPINIONS??

First of all, welcome to AFM. As far as a TALL tire, you may want to stay with a 17 inch wheel. 18's will give you limited room for change. Go with a 17x10 rear and 17x9 front. Just don't plan on the car handling as well in the turns, it will be mostly a straight line car. Good luck.
I run a 295-45-18 in back. There are some who have gone 305 and beyond.

Porsche and vettes stagger their wheels, right? They handle awesome in the corners. How come a mustang can't? I would think it has more to do with the suspension than staggered tires.

Then again, I've never driven a stang with a staggered setup, do I dunno.

It's a combination of weight and the live rear axle.

I'm not talking about a staggered setup, thats what I plan on runing. I didn't mention staggering at all. I said, a "TALL" tire as in a 1960's type look, what he is wanting. That will cause it to handle less responsive in turns as long as that is what he is wanting. Suspension helps alot, but without the tires to match the setup goal, it won't be as effective.
