First time on the 1/4 mile

Ok guys, finally going to do it. I've watched from the side lines long enough. I'm going to take my garage queen (2006 with 5k miles) to the strip. I'm basically stock with steeda CAI and brenspeed tune, 275/40/18's all the way around and a Hurst shifter, and most importantly, no drag strip experience - what should I expect for a time slip first time out? This is in northen California, expect temp to be around 80F and no planned burn out (don't want to embarass myself too much).:scratchchin

My first time out with similar equipment I ran 14 flat on a slippery track. Anything in the 13's would be very good. Have fun -- I had a blast !!
I would expect mid-14s on your first trip out. Regardless, don't get discouraged whatever your times.

Thanks, my goal is to break into the 13's, but I understand being realistic.

With some practice, I don't think that's unrealistic.
I say your going to run mid to low 14's for your first time. Good luck and have fun:bigthumbsup

Yeah, I know the car is capable - it's up to me to bang the gears and hold up my end. I plan to run a week from this Wednesday - I promise to report back even if my tail is firmly tucked!:gringreen

We won't give you a hard time no matter how bad you do. :bigthumbsup
I think you'll do fine. just take it slow the first time down to get a feel for the track and where the turn off is. oh and dont forget to turn off the traction control.

I ran the new 2008 5-speed down the 1/4 at 900 miles on the odometer w/ only axle-baks on it and best I got that day was [email protected] And yes, I forgot to turn traction control off every time. As I was leaving track I noticed the TCS button and said "Hmmm...forgot about that". Haven't driven a stick down the track since back in the 80's but figr'd I did OK. Still gotta figure out how to launch it.

I don't know how invasive the Mustang TCS is as the tires were spinning a bit off the line and on the 1-2 shift. I also ran the Vette that day and forgot to turn TCS off once and boy, now that is noticeable. It dies a horrible, bogging, embarrassing death at the line w/ the TCS on. The Mustang, not so much but it sure can't help.

Have fun, I know I did even with TCS ignorance in play. :bigthumbsup

More important than the time slip is the adrenaline rush. Your heart will be pounding so hard and fast that first time out. I've only ran mine once (several times). It is a thrill. Have fun.
Watch people first and see what they do,then give it a whirl. It will be fun, believe me. When you line up turn off TCS AND OD iF Auto. When you line up you will pull up and the top 2 lights on the tree will light up. You will pull up a bit more and the yellow lights below them will light up,you are staged. Then the lager yellow lights below them will come on 1 2 and green. You get a jump and as soon as you see number 2 yellow hit it. Watch people it is not so hard. You WILL be fine.

Have fun man...I have never ran a car either but would like to. I too would be very nervus the first time I'm sure but you just got to let it go and do it or you will never know what it's like and then you won't have any stories to tell your grandkids about.
