Have an original 66 GT. Rebuilt the Autolite 4100 and now having flooding issues after the car runs ok for a few minutes. It starts loading up and just doesn't want to run. You can smell a strong gas odor. Just to verify removed a plug and it was wet
Took the top off the carb after all this, needles appear to be seated and both bowls are about half full of gas. Not sure what I missed. The automatic choke is questionable on this car but would that cause this? Any help would be appreciated.

If the choke doesn't open sufficiently, it can certainly cause flooding, and wet plugs. Once the engine warms up, the mixture would be way too rich, plus the amount of air getting in would be minimal, so the motor gets very unhappy.

Hello!
Be extremely careful in trouble shooting this. Repeated flooding leads to cylinder wall washing in extreme cases. And it can get extreme real quick as you poke around and continually test things by starting/running the engine.

It's a lesson I learned well on this forum from these more experienced guys ;)
