Ford reportedly ready to fire the Mustang Boss 302

The Boss may not be back.
A leaked order guide for the 2014 Ford Mustang picked up by MustangsDaily.com
indicates that the highly regarded Boss 302 version of the car isn’t making a return appearance next year, as the company prepares an all-new Mustang for 2015.

Introduced in 2012, the $42,995 ‘Stang features a 444 hp 5.0-liter V8, adjustable track-tuned suspension, functional body kit and hockey stick paint job that apes the original Boss 302 from 1969.
An even higher performance Laguna Sega model is also available that stiffens up the chassis and suspension even further and deletes the rear seats. Its name a tribute to Ford’s met goal of building a version of its pony car that’s faster around the famed Laguna Seca racetrack than a BMW M3.
Unlike the 200 mph Mustang Shelby GT500, the Boss 302 was designed more for road courses than drag strips and has met with rave reviews from many automotive news outlets, including FoxNews.com. Ford never planned to offer it beyond 2013, but until the order sheet got out fans could at least hope for a contract renewal.
Now, it looks like the pink slip is in the mail.

We knew this already. We've known since 2011 that the Boss 302 would only be around for two model years just like the original.

Look where the information came from....... Fox News! They have no ******* clue what's going on in the real world! Ford announced well before the first Boss 302 came off the line that it was going to be a limited edition, two year model run! Americans have the attention span of a gnat!!

Yes that should be true... total build number of 8000...
2012 3250 Boss 302 Track Pack
2012 750 Boss LS
2013 3250 Boss 302 Track Pack
2013 750 Boss LS
I think mine just increased in value... I know I am over priced but I would give it up for 60k the way it sets or even trade for a new base 2013 GT500...

Why introduce politics in a car forum, ala the fox news comment.

Let's talk Mustangs, something in common we all like to do.
Maybe Ford will put out a BOSS 351 or 429 variant now. :)

I thing a N/A version of the 5.8L in the GT500 would make for a beast future Boss engine!

Bash all the viewers of the most-watched cable news network in the nation, and then, just in case you missed offending anybody, bash all the rest of us Americans for good measure.

Epic post.

The news source still doesn't change the fact that the car is going to be discontinued.

But it does say something when two year old news is relevant today.

It appears their story was correct.

Send an apology to Fox news?

^^^I have to admit this made me chuckle^^^

Sure, we already knew this but despite the flawed spin on the article (what a shock) the retiring, not fired, Boss is newsworthy, and as valid a topic as any. And it's not like we don't have any other duplicate/same/similar threads.

It never really dawned on me until now that the lifecycle of the Boss spanning 2012-2013 is pretty shrewd placement by Ford if you ask me. Each model is instantly recognizable. It's not just a Boss, it's a 2012 Boss, or a 2013 Boss. Probably pretty fun for those who own one as well to know they have a pretty unique beast.

Damn, Fox news even spins car news of all things. :kooky:

The "Boss" is getting fired? That implies, it wasn't selling as well as expected.

Expect this headline from Fox in 2016 , "Obama to be fired by years end."

More politics. What's the deal here?

It's a cutsie headline. Nothing else was intended.

The "Boss" is getting fired.

As in a boss usually fires others, instead the boss is fired, not the employees.
Get it?

Good grief.

Maybe I'm too old to be around here when some seem to make no sense or maybe wanna do a victory lap or something approaching a happy dance. That's never respectable whichever side of the equation one is on.

What would be interesting is the post by someone on page 1 regarding the GT500 5.8 as an N/A.

What would that put out for HP?

I would gladly trade my boss (Not the worlds best) for a Boss. :winks

Like was already said, Ford said it was a limited run. Sucks, but great for owners. I actually would take a Boss 302 LC over a GT500 any day.

I believe you're referring to a BOSS LS? As in Legua Seca!

That's a good question. The 5.8 to the very lowest level core is really a punched out 5.4L Modular. It also has a higher compression ratio than then 5.4L and fires out 14lb of boost. I would imagine N/A, the Trinity engine isn't putting out THAT much power. My guess would be in the 375'ish range. It clearly is a platform made for forced induction applications. Nothing wrong with that though, it's just how the engine is used.
