For those of you who have your Mustang's computer reconfigured, is it a must to set everything back to stock before a visit or do some dealers let it slide?

I also have a Hurst shifter and a C and L intake. How do the dealers react with these type mods? Anyone have stories?

Long story short....there is a warranty law....I believe it's the Magnussen-Moss act (or something like that) which states that a factory warranty CANNOT be voided by the manufacturer UNLESS they can PROVE that the failure was directly caused by any modifications that were made.

In other words....if you have an aftermarket shifter installed and your transmission fails while still under warranty, they still have to fix the transmission under warranty unless they can prove the installation of the shifter caused the transmission to fail. Same with the engine and drivetrain.

it all depends on the dealer. You can ask the guys at the dealer there take on that question before you take it in. With a lightly moded can you can always swap it back and just reinstall it when you get it back. If you have a lot more mods like mine, well that's another thing all together.

advice

the best thing for you to do is put the stock parts on and then take it to the dealership for repairs. when i worked at ford if we had someone come in with a problem like that ford would send out an adjuster to inspect it, and they would make the final call on whether or not it would be covered under warranty or not. most of the time they did not warranty it. put it back to stock and you shouldnt have any problems

I did read recently on a Shelby forum that the S197 ECU records the number of times that the tune has been flashed. So if it's an engine issue that they can tie to the tune, Ford will know that you (or the dealer) have flashed it 7 times, etc. The guy that relayed this spent some time with Ford engineers, for what it's worth.
