My friend drives a 5 speed V6 mustang and wants to start modding it because he is tired of getting beat by my stock minivan and my turbo car. lol. Since Im the only one of my friends who knows anything about cars he asked me. However, I am big into 4 cylindar turbos which are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT then his V6. What are some good modifications to make to his engine? Can the V6 hold up to nitrous oxide? What are the limits of the factory engine?

Any info will be greatly appreciated,

Thanks.

I would get 4.10's with a tuner. A CAI and o/r mid pipe along with AM mufflers and pulleys.

4.10's on a stick? That is a little steep for stock motor and tires, I would get 3.73's

Don't fear the gear! lol. Depends also if he drives in city a lot then 4.10's would work great. 3.73's would work great if he does a lot of highway driving, but it boils down to what he wants to use the car for so either 4.10's or 3.73's would be good:bigthumbsup

Well I recommend the Ford Racing Gears 3.73's then since your buddy does a lot of highway driving. You can get a good CAI from American Muscle for under 75 buck I believe. As for the tuner either Diablo or SCT will be fine. Oh and if you get these things at AM, be sure to use the discount code "fnsweet" Good luck:bigthumbsup

Cool, he does a lot of highway and backcountry driving since he lives on the outskirts of town. Where can I find these parts and whats a good brand CAI and tuner?
Here's a set of gears
Ford 7.5" Ring & Pinion Set 3.73 Ratio

Just for the principle of it I would suggest a good dual exhaust as well; single tail pipe just doesn't look right. :nogrinner

They will have all the aprts he will need, including Nitrous. He can handle up to a 100 shot wet. BBK make a good CAI, I just got mine and love it. Get a good dual exsaust. If you do Nitrous, get a tuner, it will definately help as you can get several preset modes, one could be a tune for the nitrous shot.

yeah, what Tuflehundon said! haha, but if you are getting Nitrous, i recommend going with no more than a 75 shot wet if your friend has a complete stock stang. i heard people saying its ok with the 100 shot but i wouldnt push it with stock internals. and a tuner is a musttttt, thats the next thing im getting for sure

It's not the tuner, you need to get a dynotune. Nitrous tunes are really car specific, and getting a generic nitrous tune could be dangerous. For example, when I installed my nitrous, I ordered jets from Zex for my car. I believe they told me that I needed 21 and 40 jets. I installed them and dynoed it. My car ended up with 31 and 41 for a 75 shot. If I used what they said and just got a generic tune, I would have leaned out my car because the fuel jet was too small and would have roasted the motor......

Yeah, it could take 100, but it is generally borderline. We put about a 100 on mine, and it leaned way out at 2400rpm's. It did do 276rwhp and 395rwtq at only 2400rpm's. It was safe and fun to try it because we were right there with the A/F ratio on the dyno.

What mods have you done other than the Nitrous? I am considering nitrous for my car after i do the exsaust, tuner, upgrade the brakes, and get bigger wheels and tires. I should have been more clear earlier to, I didn't mean that he needed a tuner for the nitro, the tuner will help him optime his engine for the other mods. Then if he get Nitro he could do the custom dynotune for it.

What nitro kit did you use, and did you do the install or get a mechanic to do it.I am thinking about doing to 100 shot, but want to do a 4.2 kit with forged internals first, probably even a port and polish, maybe a new cam. What was you HP gain just from the Nitro 75 shot? I would like to do that cause then I could take GT's and Cobras.:D

I've done some work, but nothing internally. I got an engine builder on a good day, that's all. My baseline dyno was 193rwhp, 240rwtq with a 93 tune. My 75 shot dyno numbers are in my sig. I have yet to purchase underdrive pullies as well. I don't need them......

Yeah, I can take GT's and pre-terminator slightly-modified Cobras, but there are other factors involved. Weight, rotational mass, etc. Installing nitrous then putting bigger tires/rims defeats your purpose of better track times..
