This might sound funny but for the GT is there a front plate holder that attaches to the bumper or do you just run self tapping screws in the bumper cover?

I pre drilled mine with a 1/8 bit first. but, I said the same thing ....can you believe Ford didnt give us a front plate bracket??????? I like the idea of not having nothin there at all for the states that dont have to run front plates but make something for us that have to ...it can be put on if need be.........ya know?
i live in nj and just ordered mine. are you saying it will not come with an attached plate holder? or will they give it to me seperate? its a law in nj so i bet the dealer attaches it when they prep the car.

Ouch! :happyhapp
Sorry to say but...

Sorry guys,

I live in Richmond, VA and I too was disgusted with the idea of a front plate but the law requires one here, Thinking luck was on my side I decided not to put the holes in my front bumper and leave the plate in the trunk...NO SUCH LUCK!! After only 2 weeks I was pulled over by the State Police for no plate on the front...Damn! After talking to the nice officer and receiving a nice present for the holidays from him..$500 dollar fine Thank You ,I went to the nearest FORD dealer to see about purchasing a bracket/holder for the front, And what do you think the parts clerk told me?? No such animal, your only option is to get out the drill and have at it, I know it sucks but that what it takes to avoid the High price of not having the plate up there where it is required by state law, Merry Christmas.
Front license plate holder

I've searched the web for a license plate holder (front) for my 05 GT but the only place I found anything was a post on this sight where a member had made his own front plate holder. I didn't much care for his design but it worked for him. My state not only requires a front plate be attached but also requires that a current month/year sticker be affixed to the front plate as well as the rear plate. I don't know if the factory drilled the holes for the front plate or the dealer did in but I wish that the holes hadn't been drilled. My front plate is currently in the trunk and until I get stopped thats where it is going to stay. It just really distracts from the looks of the front of the car.
$500 fine? California charges it as a fix-it ticket. Also, Calfonia law only specifies that the front plate be "visible". I'm sure that's open to interpretation. I keep my plate on the back floor and when I drive through known enforcement cities (Coronado and La Mesa) I prop it up in the corner of the passenger side window. I was trying to figure a way to adapt the hot rod style motorized retractable plate holder but the car is just too low.

Man, I feel for you guys. No front plates in Florida. Ford should have made a bracket. That would suck to have to drill into the bumper, just for a license plate. I only want to put holes into mine if I can get some additional HP!
i just hope the dealer doesn't take it upon themselves to drill out the holes. it is required by law in nj, but not strictly enforced(depends on what town you are flying thru). anyone else from nj deal with this issue, or did the dealer mount the plate prior to you driving off lot w/o talking to you about it??
I know people who have taken elastic straps and put the plates on the passenger side visor. Apparently, that's "ok" in some states. Thankfully, I don't need one. Dealer didn't pre-drill the holes in the front. The dimples were there... but no holes.
Im in Va too....500 bucks!! My plate will be on tonight! wow! I would say if your state does not require a front tag then the dealer should not drill it. Ford did put 2 very small dimples there for location. My dealer just put a tag on the rear....I willl get mine on tonight :) thing is though even if we had a bracket Im sure it would still require holes there abouts the same place. I just think it would look better with a blacked out frame of some sort around the tag :) I hear the 07 cars will have a frame.
damn, 500! I sure hope its not that much out here. I figure a warning is what Ill get 1st. 9 weeks and no problems yet.
I am prepared to tell officer Im waiting in a bracket from ford to come in.

You guys are so anal about 2 holes in plastic, 9 weeks and do you think they will believe you are still waiting for a brackett
Its not the holes im worried about, its the big ugly plate that bothers me.

Yes, bought 05 GT went back to dealer when tags were ready and they said they'll help me out and throw them on. Big mistake, two holes with screws right into the bumper. I was ready to pass out or kill someone. Why in the world would they not have a bracket even off something else.:sterb:
off topic reply...

Dude! Your user name is my license tag! I have RUSTANG for my plate she has K STANG for hers. (we have two new GT's) and yep... my name is Russ ...is yours???

I used some aluminum strap from Fleet Farm an made a mounting bracket. Bolted it to the metal bumper under the skin. Fairly straight forward effort.

I put nice quality chrome license plate holders around the front and rear tags. I like it with out the tag on the front better, but this looks ok. What else can we do if we don't want a ticket?
Well I live in CA (Bay Area), and mine came with the front plates attached (holes and all:sosad: ). I think it has to do with state law--although it is a fix it ticket, it's not fixed until you prove it's there.:sterb:
I used a couple cheap 3" angle brackets. (hardware store.) Straightened to the correct angle and bolted to the black plastic lower grill bar so no holes are visible. You have to persuade the plastic a bit ie bend it down enough to start the nut and bolt, but it's doable. used short bolt and self locking nut. I then made square holes (hand filed) in the bracket's to accommodate nylon license plate fasteners. Worked pretty well. been a year now. And NO DRILLING THE BUMPER COVER!
